OVERVIEW OF THE POST


Part time (19 hours per week post) - supporting the development and delivery of our environmental and outdoor learning offer to young people in Greater Manchester.


ROLE & MAIN PURPOSES OF THE POST


The post holder will enable young people to feel connected to nature by delivering activities at a variety of green spaces across Greater Manchester, in particular our own Green sites in Trafford and Rochdale.

You will deliver projects that support young people to develop new practical skills, strengthen their emotional wellbeing and increase their physical activity levels.


The post holder will:
- work within our youth and community team to embed outdoor learning skills across our wider programmes, enabling sustainable behaviours and connectivity to nature to be embedded more effectively across the trust.
- work with schools and education partners to create suitable interventions from enquires and requests for support.
- identify potential opportunities for collaboration, create and implement a range of activities and projects that enable outdoor learning and positive interactions with nature sites.
- provide expertise and practical knowledge on food growing, biodiversity, outdoor activities, nature-based restoration and horticulture.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential experience:


  • Delivering outdoor learning activities to children and young people.
  • Developing outdoor interventions and projects
  • Collaborating with schools and/or other partners in delivering projects
  • Managing projects and reporting on them

Desirable experience:


  • Working with vulnerable children
  • Delivering outward bounds/teambuilding activities

Essential knowledge, skills and qualifications:


  • Understanding of environmental issues and sustainability
  • Knowledge of food growing and biodiversity
  • Practical knowledge of outdoor activities
  • Knowledge of naturebased restoration
  • Practical knowledge of horticulture
  • Enthusiastic and able to motivate others

Able to:

  • Work on your own, unsupervised.
  • Work well under pressure
  • Adapt and be flexible
  • Be active outside all day
  • Remain positive and in control of large groups of children

Desirable knowledge, skills and qualifications:


  • Horticulture level
  • Teaching/training qualification
  • Forest school / Bush craft skills qualification
  • Outdoor activities instructor qualification
  • Able to relate activities to key stage 3&
  • Carbon literacy
