Description

This is an exciting opportunity to work within and alongside Student Services colleagues to shape and grow a new service which makes a positive contribution to the academic achievements and, indeed, the lives of the students we support.

About the Team:

The Student Welfare Team is a small new team which sits within the wider Student Services Directorate.

The team provides a case management response to students reporting various concerns including, for example, homelessness, financial issues and domestic violence.

The team also responds to reports of hate crime and sexual violence submitted through our on-line Report and Support reporting system.

We also ensure the appropriate Student Services response to reports of a communicable diseases.

About the Role:

We are now recruiting for a Student Welfare Team Advisor.

The postholder will provide a case management service to students who self-refer or who are referred to the service with the type of issues described above.

This will be a challenging but rewarding role.

Students may be facing difficult and distressing life events but the postholder will have the opportunity to provide them with, or secure access to, the support they need.

The nature of the issues presented will require the postholder to work closely with colleagues across the University and, in particular, the Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, the Disability Service and colleagues working in our halls.

  • Understand the role of a case manager.
  • Understand the boundaries of the role (referring to specialist services as required).
  • Be experienced in supporting people with complex needs.
  • Be resilient in the face of potentially harrowing reports from students.
  • Be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of the students.
