Head of Buying with National Retailer
Every head of buying gets to shape the success of their business. Some go further, helping to change the nature of responsible, sustainable sourcing.

About this role:

Our client sources much of its product from East Asia, and it does it direct.

That means you'll need strong and proven resourcing experience within the region, a commercial laser focus, and the ability to lead your team of 15+ to capitalise on a market thatis ripe for growth.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Overall responsibility for the Buying team and buying activities across the business
  • Delivering profitable departments irrespective of fluctuating trends
  • Analysing trading patterns, advising teams and ensuring appropriate action in the event of unforeseen sales reactions
  • Creating and implementing best practice buying strategies and processes
  • Creating and delivering operational strategy and budgetary processes, with responsibility for areas including range planning, supplier development, ethical sourcing, forecasting, and inventory
  • Evaluating the challenges faced by the business and taking action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing direct reports and managing a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions
  • Setting departmental objectives in line with business strategy and monitoring ongoing progress and performance

Role requirements:


  • Proven previous experience as a Head of Buying or similar
  • Experience of global sourcing
  • Strong product development and financial management skills
  • Excellent team leadership/management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage and influence people at all levels, internally and externally
