Job summary:

His Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth (HMNBP) has been an integral part of the city since 1194.

It is home to almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy's surface ships, including the new aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth; HMS Prince of Wales; the formidable Type 45 destroyers; Type 23 frigates; and mine countermeasures and fishery protection squadrons.


The base is a major employer and provides lodging facilities to RN personnel serving at the base and in Portsmouth-based ships.

HMNBP is one of three naval bases providing enabling support as part of the nation's defence strategy.

In doing so, HMNBP seeks to improve through science and technology to strengthen its security and defence at home and overseas.

This requires continuous improvements in building capacity, capability and resilience through its people. It is the home base for assigned ships and ship's companies preparing for operations.

A key component of achieving this support is the ability to deliver the full range of increasingly sophisticated engineering support services.

Job description:


This key waterfront role assists with the control and co-ordination of all non-engineering waterfront and operational activity on behalf of the Waterfront Executive Officer (WXO).

You will be a member of the Ships Facilities team looking after a diverse range of outputs ranging from:

Handling the Logistics Requests (LOGREQ), marine services provision, diving, transmissions and assisting with the co-ordination of a range of ships visits and events.


You will be acting as the focal point for the administration, of all LOGREQs from both national and foreign warships.

The Post Holder will liaise with all contractors regarding the availability and delivery of requested services, providing feedback to demanding units.

You will ensure that all services are delivered in a timely manner, and, when this is not possible, communicate an alternative solution to all parties.

In addition, you will be responsible for co-ordinating specific marine services namely - fuel, sewage and sullage.


You will also be required to support the wider departmental needs by assisting with other operational tasks including, but not limited to, transmissions, ammunition evolutions and diving requests, confirming that simultaneous, conflicting operations do not take place, thus ensuring that Portsmouth Naval Base safety regulations and guidelines are not compromised.


Additionally, you will be required to assist with the arrangements for visiting foreign and national warships to Portsmouth Naval Base.

A key element of these visits is the co-ordination and delivery of the services requested on the ship's LOGREQ. The post holder will also be required to support major ship events such as Commissioning's, Homecomings and Families Days.


In conjunction with other Ship Facilities Staff the job role will also; receive, assimilate and take administrative action to respond to all requests for provision of facilities and/or requests to carry out waterfront operations; ensure that all water space operations conducted by warships & civilian contractors have been authorised and de-conflicted in a safe and timely manner.


Person specification:


Applicants should be able to demonstrate their ability to manage and co-ordinate a number of simultaneous events with conflicting deadlines, within the context of an ever changing and fast-moving operational environment.


They should also be able to evidence good communication and interpersonal skill and the ability to liaise with personnel at all levels.


The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the need to maintain a safe working environment whilst carrying out hazardous activity and operations in a port or similar multi-functional operational environment.
