Description

In the NHS, patient safety and safe staffing are intrinsically linked and are both big priorities for us as an organisation.

If you think you have the skills and experience to make a difference to this, then this role is for you.

As Matron for Patient Safety and Safe Staffing, you will work with clinical leaders to triangulate workforce, patient outcome and patient experience metrics to set safe nursing, midwifery and AHP establishments in line with national guidance.

As the professional lead you will bring your expertise to support the clinical divisions to maximise the provision of nursing staff to clinical areas of our organisation.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with the Trust's Patient Safety Specialists and use continuous improvement methodology.

This will drive improvements in key aspects of patient safety in order to deliver the objectives set in the Trust's Always Safety First strategy.

You will be an integral part of our Corporate Quality and Safety team and will report to the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer.

You will be responsible for supporting the clinical divisions to review, support and provide expert knowledge for the provision of safe nursing staff numbers to clinical areas of the organisation and particularly to the inpatient ward areas.

You will lead defined patient safety improvement plans by using Continuous Improvement methodology and report in to the Always Safety First Committee.

Our mission is to provide excellent care with compassion.

We have three equally important strategic aims - to provide outstanding healthcare to our local communities, to offer a range of high quality specialised services to patients in Lancashire and South Cumbria, and to drive innovation through world-class education, training and research.

We are constantly striving to improve, and working towards becoming an outstanding, high performing organisation.

In conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, Divisional senior nursing management and ward management teams, you will provide advice and assurance from a clinical perspective on all aspects of safe staffing and conduct in relation to permanent workers, making decisions on the safe staffing across the Trust.

You will lead on roster check challenge and coach sessions for the nursing management teams and ward managers to ensure efficient roster compliance and that rostering policies and procedures are followed.

You will need a NMC or HCPC professional registration and an ability to build effective relationships, working in partnership with others in the workforce and corporate nursing teams.

A good level of knowledge around nurse rostering practice and safe staffing will be essential as well as an ability to use the Trusts SafeCare Health Roster system.

An awareness of NHSi national strategies and ICS work streams around rostering and staffing will be an advantage. You will need to be able to work independently, influence peers and more senior colleagues and make key decisions
- this will be a key part of the role.
