This is an exciting time to join North Somerset

Delivery of the Bus Service Improvement Plan in North Somerset will revolutionise public transport, making it a viable alternative to travel by private vehicle for many of our residents.

The programme prioritises infrastructure improvements and service investment over the next two years.

It includes new bus shelters, bus interchanges for our key towns, an improved passenger experience, improved fares and ticketing, better branding and information, shorter journey times, more reliable services and measures to help people access public transport at the beginning and end of their journeys.

Join our Team

We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Senior Transport Planning Officer to focus on the first and last mile work in our Public Transport and BSIP capital delivery teams.

This will be a fast paced and exciting time to work for us - our joint West of England Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) received the second largest funding settlement nationally.

We are working in partnership with the West of England Combined Authority as part of a joint delivery unit approach.

The project management role is core to ensuring effective delivery of the BSIP projects and initiatives for both capital and revenue work areas.

Your core work will ensure that we effectively lead the development and engagement around transport hubs and interchanges.

We want to ensure that we connect our population first and last mile connections to public transport and that we learn from and coordinate with the WECA Future Transport Zone MaaS and Mobility Hub projects.

This workstream also links directly with the Active Travel Strategy delivery plans and micro-mobility projects that focus on extending the reach of the public transport offer into our areas' rural communities.

We have just finished consulting the public on our Active Travel Strategy Action Plan for First and Last Mile

The BSIP Mobility Hub/Interchange package is c. £6-12M in value.

This role will be based within the Sustainable and Active Travel Team but focussed on BSIP and public transport integration workstreams.

You will have a key role in an expanding team to deliver the work packages in our Bus Service Improvement Plan to significantly increase bus patronage and active travel or micro-mobility connections to it, helping to decarbonise transport in the district.
