Description
To provide clinical leadership for the SLT service for Head & Neck/ENT across NHS Lothian. To provide highly specialist assessment, differential diagnosis, interpretation and management of communication and/or eating, drinking swallowing needs including expert advice at a tertiary regional level with a wide range of NHS and non NHS professionals (e.g. consultants, Education and Social Care departments and voluntary organisations). To be responsible for the service standards and practice within the specialist clinical area.


To provide specialist teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level to Speech and Language Therapists, Medical, Voluntary Organisations, Education and Social Care staff.

To develop knowledge and skills of the wider speech and language therapy team for the specialist clinical area, ensuring dissemination of appropriate training and supervision across the Lothian wide team.

To initiate, lead on and undertake clinical research initiatives, quality improvement projects and audit within the specialist field.


To represent the SLT department in multi-agency strategic planning, policy development and evaluation of multi-agency services working with external agencies (Health, Education, Social Policy, Voluntary Organisations) and take an active role in the development of national clinical standards and local and national service guidelines.


Please note:
For part-time posts, the salary will be pro-rata.
