Abid Mehmood

I am looking for an opportunity to apply my skills and abilities to a challenging, growth-oriented position with a leading company like Apple while continuing to build my academic foundation. 

My previous experiences have supported the development of my communicating and investigative abilities. I am excited about the possibility of learning from and contributing to your team by applying my ability to learn and grow, resilience and personal effectiveness skills.  My focus, as an emerging professional, is to utilise my skills in financial modelling, making a positive impact on the overall organisation.

I enjoy collecting, organizing and analysing data, working in groups and brainstorming project strategies, as well as using wider reading around this field, which has enabled me to understand the process behind analysing financial statements. This includes identifying company strategies and preparing forecasted statements which would influence the level of investment or the number of workers that will be made redundant in order to protect profits. 

Previously, my role in Asset Management within Barclays meant that I also looked at aspects of trading, where we would advise a client as to what shares they should invest in. Through extensive research, I was able to convince them to not invest in Tesco shares, which had risen quite sharply between March 2020 to February 2022, and to invest in BAE systems, which is one of the most prominent defence companies within this industry. This was because I felt that the rise in Tesco Shares had taken place as takeaways, pubs, and restaurants had been forced to close down due to Covid, therefore these supermarkets were the only place people could go and eat from. However, rising inflation within the economy would only impact their shares in the long term, which can be seen from the fact that Tesco shares have decreased rapidly by about 73 points since this phase. On the other hand, the shares of BAE systems have increased by 172 points. The reason for this is that the Government are investing more money on Defence due to the risk that they face from Russia, who have invaded Ukraine. While this may not sound right from a humanitarian perspective, the fact that I was able to convince my client as well as my manager to take this initiative meant that the client was able to almost double his wealth and assets within the last 12 months.
