Education

My passion, childhood ambition, parents' guidance and previous experiences all contributed me to enrol for a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree in the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi University.
I was a keen observer during the course which helped me to learn easily, and I was blessed with the company of competent colleagues and friendly tutors. I learned much from St.James Hospital, Chalakudy during my second-year musculoskeletal posting about the fundamentals of physiotherapy assessment and basic electrotherapy equipment. Dr Parsad Varkey, the senior orthopaedic surgeon was very friendly to new students and explained basic surgical fixation procedures and the benefits of early mobilisation. I got exposure to the latest practises in the field of neuro-physiotherapy during my posting in Elite Mission Hospital, Koorkenchery. From where I was familiarised with terms like PNF, trigger points, cerebellar ataxia and so on.

During my academic year, I was quite interested in writing articles about what I learned. Two of them were published in Health Action Magazine. One was about acupuncture for curing diseases and relieving pain, which was published on page number 32 of February 2008. The story behind pain was published on page number 32 of the August 2010 edition of Health Action monthly magazine. ‘Deformities of Knee’ was my Orthopaedic project during my second year and ‘Pain Gait Theory’ was my third-year project in Neurology. Along with the academic sessions, I gave equal importance to work for the profession. I was an active member of and State Committee Joint Secretary of All Kerala Physiotherapy Student’s Association. Together with my colleagues, we conducted a one-day seminar on ‘Trigger point therapy’, inter University Quiz competition and many more similar events. I did a presentation about ‘Stem Cell Therapy at the State Conference conducted by the State Committee of A.K.P.S.A.
In 2009, I appeared for my final year examination and I got a pass with 61% of marks. Thereafter, I did six months compulsory internship programme in Lal Memorial Hospital where I learned to assess patients, record my findings, check vital signs, implement a treatment plan, do regular follow-ups, report daily duties, discussion with seniors and mentors and master practical skills. After the successful completion of the internship, I was awarded a Bachelor of Physiotherapy Degree Certificate. Immediately after I fulfilled the requirements for registration as a physiotherapist in 2010, I obtained life membership in KAPC (Kerala Association for Physiotherapists Co-ordination with register number-1193 and I started my career as a Physiotherapist.

It is important to grab the current expansions in the physiotherapy profession. And so, I have enrolled for Advanced Physiotherapy Msc at University of Brighton.
