I am excited to apply for the Music position. With a background as a producer, mix engineer, and music educator, I bring a well-rounded combination of technical expertise and hands-on teaching experience, ideally suited for a role that blends creative support, logistics, and educational engagement.

Over the past five years, I’ve worked across studio, live, and academic settings. I hold a BA (Hons) in Music (Songwriting & Production) from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), where I was awarded both the Holt Education Trust Commendation and the AIE Music Excellence Prize in 2024. My foundation in classical training—via a 10-year diploma from the Professional Conservatoire “Guitarrista José Tomás”—equips me with strong theoretical and musical knowledge that I regularly apply in both studio and educational settings.

In terms of technical capability, I have experience in professional studios such as Real World Studios and Black Betty, where I supported recording sessions, handled equipment setup, and managed gear under tight schedules. At LIPA, I was part of the Technical Services team, assisting with everything from microphone and drum kit configuration to Mac lab maintenance and classroom setups. I am proficient in Logic Pro X and confident using Pro Tools and Ableton Live. I am also familiar with general studio upkeep, cable management, minor repairs, and maintaining a functional and inspiring music-making environment.

Equally, I have a deep passion for education. I’ve worked as a private music tutor since 2019, delivering lessons in guitar, vocals, production, and theory, both online and in person. My teaching has spanned all ages and learning styles, including neurodivergent students. From 2018–2021, I worked as a band teacher at the European School of Alicante, running rehearsals for students aged 11–17, coordinating performances, and building ensemble confidence. These experiences make me well-prepared to support students during class time and enrichment activities, manage rehearsal spaces, and provide individual help where needed.

In terms of event support, I’ve helped plan and deliver performances across the UK — including shows at The Cavern, Future Yard, and the Paul McCartney Auditorium. I’m confident managing rehearsals, gear logistics, programme printing, and backstage operations. I also understand how to work with students in the lead-up to ABRSM exams, open mic nights, and school concerts—balancing encouragement with precision and preparation.

This role’s blend of creative, technical, and organisational tasks aligns with how I already work as a freelance professional. I take pride in being dependable, efficient, and adaptable—whether managing studio sessions, supporting younger musicians, or ensuring a smooth lesson setup. I thrive in lively music environments and understand the need to maintain calm, focused, and safe spaces for students to work independently or in groups.

What draws me most is your commitment to high standards, student development, and community. I admire the school’s emphasis on both academic achievement and creative expression. The values of compassion and courage resonate strongly with how I approach music and education: giving students the tools to explore, create, and take ownership of their growth.

To summarise, I bring:

Experience in high-pressure studio environments and educational tech teams

A proven track record in supporting and inspiring young musicians

Strong instrument and equipment handling skills, including repairs and upkeep

Event support experience including concert logistics, ABRSM exam days, and live rehearsals

A collaborative, proactive, and organised mindset, with a genuine enthusiasm for music education

I would be honoured to contribute to the department’s continued success and to support the next generation of musicians at your institute. Thank you for considering my application.

Warm regards,
Alvar Mas
