Anya Popat

I am a first-year Economics student at the University of Birmingham. I am a motivated and ambitious person who is always up for challenges that push me into learning new skills and opportunities. I am also a dedicated individual and once I commit to something I always ensure it is of the highest quality. 

I am currently engaging in the University of Birmingham investment society as a mergers and acquisitions analyst, which is expanding my knowledge about the industry and keeping me up to date with current global transactions. I am becoming more aware of the day-to-day operations of an M&A analyst as well as the financial industry as a whole, in which I am particularly looking forward to building long-lasting relationships with clients locally and globally. This has also enhanced my abilities to work well in a team as I have to operate in a team to produce bi-weekly reports in six different industries including healthcare and energy. Additionally, my analytical skills have been approved as I often have to analyse deal rational and financial metrics. 

Whilst undertaking the role of a maths tutor, I learned the significance of interpersonal skills and trust to build strong relationships with students, as well as investing time into accommodating the specific needs of students to provide them with the best possible outcomes. This has provided me with transferable, both hard and soft skills necessary for building trusted relationships with potential clients. 

Working as a food and beverage assistant at the Grove Hotel has allowed me to develop a strong work ethic and provided me with a set of transferable skills, including multitasking, attention to detail and flexibility – which I believe will all be crucial for this role. 

I am studying an Economics BSc at the University of Birmingham. 

Previously, I attended St Clement Danes School, where I undertook A-levels in Maths, Economics and Geography and obtained 3 A*'s.
