About Ashleigh Phipps:
After completing my MSc in Marine Vertebrate Ecology and Conservation and my undergraduate degree with the University of Exeter, I am excited at my marine biology career prospects. I am passionate about my local coastal community and protecting marine life. My future aim is so complete a PhD and eventually teach the subject I love whilst providing insightful and unique research to the field.
Experience
My professional experience is largely at thanks to Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority and Manta Trust. The experience I gained from these companies mainly entails data input, research, community outreach and fieldwork like sea surveys. Additionally, I learnt many transferable skills like time management and organisation, professional etiquette, multi-tasking different projects and deadlines and computer skills.
Education
My most recent form of education is my Masters Degree obtained from the University of Exeter back in February 2023. I had the opportunity to work alongside the Cyprus Bycatch Project for my thesis, genetically identifying and researching misidentified elasmobranch species in the Eastern Mediterranean and ways to combat future landings of these threatened species.
I also gained experience in the coding software R, spatial mapping (GIS) and underwent numerous training programmes for different marine conservation companies/charities.
