Experience

Theatre Practitioner October 2021 - Present - University of Southampton Hospital Neurosurgery and Neuro Interventional Radiology [Adults & Paediatric] - Preparing all necessary complex instruments, including microscopes, endoscopes, aspirators, and ultrasounds. Ensure the theatre has been cleaned before the trolley is set. Positioning the patient on the operating table. Working with surgeons to prepare and provide instruments, needles, swabs and other materials as required during all stages of the operation: before [assist assembling the drapes/ set mayo and trolleys near drape/ secure suction tubes and cautery cord], during [maintain sterile throughout operation/awareness of the patient safety] and end [counts/clear away instrument/ assist with applying dressing/ remove drapes/ prepare to recovery/ complete documentation/ handover]. 

Responsible for the surgical instruments, equipment, needle, and swabs count. 

Catheterising, cannulating, and taking bloods for patients for GA cases where is required.  

Advising patients and families on recovery plans [Local cases], as well as ways to deal with stress and anxiety. 

Supervising junior nursing staff and assisting them with patient care plans. Dealing with complaints promptly and in-line with the hospital policies. 

 

Emergency Skills 

Picking bank shifts at A&E throughout the 2 years of my nursing career has allowed me to achieve skills of a first aider that enable an aid professional to respond to individuals who are unwell or have an injury. I developed many skills which helped me to become a confident nurse, such as: attention to detail; follow the necessary procedures when responding to emergencies, ability to work in stressful situations by responding to a medical emergency it requires quick decision-making that might be stressful, communication skills to be able to assist to calm and reassure individuals experiencing distress, bleeding control referring to skills that aid in stopping bleeding and preventing blood loss which involves applying pressure on the source of bleeding to minimise it. Additionally, other specific technical skills such as: Basic Life Support (BLS) which is form of care provided to any individual experiencing cardiac arrest, breathing difficulties or a blocked airway and automated external defibrillator (AED) which is skills related to using an AED to aid individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Team Leader - Professionally leading the care team during any span of duty, ensuring a safe, effective and efficient care service is maintained. Having excellent communication skills, written, verbal and listening; a caring and compassionate attitude towards patients and staff to be able to feel comfortable in approaching me regarding any issue. 

The ability to lead the team to ensure all tasks are completed to the highest possible standards and deal with emergencies; with correct documentation filled 

Assisting and organising of staff rota. Organising and teaching moving and handling & Basic Life Support [BLS] trainings for all staff in care service.
