About Cameron Davison:
I am a recent university graduate who is seeking to gain new skills, new experiences, and meet new people. People have described me as being trustworthy, straight-forward, responsible and honest. I strive to be polite, helpful, and eager to learn; once I have put my mind to something, I feel dedicated to see it through to the end. My ambition is to work in the media industries, primarily for TV & film. During my studies at university, I specialised in 2-D & 3-D animation, storyboarding/pre-production design work & post-production video editing. I’m self-critical and self-reflective as I constantly try to improve and evolve myself and my work. I am good at conceptualising ideas, while also possessing well-rounded communication skills too.
Experience
Film & Media Industry Trainee (October 2021 - April 2022): Over the course of almost 7 months I worked for 21Media, based at Edge Hill University, as a trainee film maker. This has allowed me to work on different live-action film projects within Liverpool, such as working on a documentary film. Directed by Jessica Hynes, the documentary was about a group called Dramatic Recovery that helps people express mental health struggles through performative work, such as acting or creative writing. We also worked on a documentary called Hamlet Within, which involved working with actor Ben Turner. On these projects I worked as a runner, handling equipment, as well as working as a camera grip, assisting with filming. Me & my work colleagues also produced a short film of our own called Stillness Rings. This short film was designed to provide accompaniment, projected on a screen during a live event at the Reader, in Liverpool, in which author Jacqueline Saphra read excerpts from her book 100 Lockdown Sonnets. The film was later shown at Keswick Film Festival. We produced our own short film project called The Ferryman, during which I got to produce pixilation animation, which involved filming using a Black Magic camera. This short film later found success at numerous film festivals, as can be seen on my IMDb page. During my time with this company I was able to experiment with different film processes I was not familiar with, such as colour grading live-action film footage in DaVinci Resolve, as well as practising and improving my existing skills in many different areas such as using Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc. Being able to meet and work with industry professionals, and getting first-hand practice with the film industry has enriched my existing skills, giving me confidence and experience that I think has helped to temper me as a person working within the creative industries. My experiences here have helped stress to me the importance of teamwork in media production, collaborating with other people towards a shared goal.
Education
The University of Salford (September 2018 - July 2022, September 2022 - December 2023): In 2018, I began studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Animation at the University of Salford. During my time at university, I gained and improved many different skills, such as: problem-solving, creative-thinking, analytical skills, independent research and analysis, communication, visual and written skills, as well as working as part of a team. It has helped develop my creative ideation skills, gain more confidence, and helped me become more independent in my work, enabling me to broaden the scope of my skill-set. I have gained and developed practical skills in several different programs such as ToonBoom Harmony, Autodesk Maya, and Storyboard Pro. I am also very familiar with Adobe programs, such as Animate, Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. My university course has allowed me to greatly refine my skills within a short amount of time, allowing me unique experiences I otherwise would not have had, including working together with my classmates on group projects, from conception to finished animation. This included competitions, such as the RSA Student Design Awards, as well as industry briefs, working on a Eurovision-related project for the TATE Gallery in Liverpool as part of Late At TATE.
