Charlotte White

I am a very enthusiastic, resilient and highly motivated individual.  I am passionate about English Language and achieved a First-class degree in English Language and Linguistics.  I feel a burning desire to help young people achieve their potential and more, as a result of this I applied to do teacher training at Exeter University.  I finished my PGCE in 2020 and I began tutoring at an academy in Bournemouth before becoming an English teacher at the school which involved teaching students who were between the ages of 11-16 and a range of abilities. 

I currently work as a full-time tutor in a secondary school, this predominantly involves delivering GCSE English Language content to students who need additional support and those who have been absent for a long period of time.  Occasionally, I also teach functional skills, more recently I have worked with EAL learners who will be sitting the functional skills exam next academic year. 

After completing my degree, I became a freelance travel writer for an Australian magazine. This involved: researching travel destinations, writing short and concise articles, adjusting style of writing to suit various target audiences and meeting tight deadlines.  

In 2018, I pursued teacher training. After finishing my PGCE I began tutoring at an academy in Bournemouth before becoming an English teacher at the school.  Tutoring involved: taking out small groups of students in KS3 and KS4 who were working below their target grades, I supported them on particular areas of weakness.   As an English teacher my duties included: communicating effectively to members of staff, parents and students, planning suitable lessons for a range of abilities and sharing planning with members of the department, managing behavior effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment, adapting teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.  Attending staff meetings and parents' evenings, setting high expectations grounded in mutual respect, and reflecting systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching. 

Currently I am working as a full-time tutor at a Secondary School. This predominantly involves delivering GCSE English Language content to Y10 and Y11 students.  I also with students in Y7-Y9.

 I acquired a First-Class degree with honors in English Language and Linguistics.
