About Darius Morgan:
Conscientious writer who dreams of becoming a published writer and running a hotel in Europe.
Experience
I graduated from Bath Spa university in 2018 with a 2:1 in Creative Writing BA (Hons). During my course I took modules in Journalism and Professional Writing, which have given me a good understanding of editorial duties, such as proofreading, copywriting and editing. I am always eager to listen and learn, and believe my enthusiasm and conscientiousness would make me an asset to the team.
At university I also became involved in the student magazine, “Milk”. In my third year I was Commissioning Editor for Culture and Entertainment. This was a great collaborative experience; I worked closely with other writers to brainstorm article ideas before making the final decisions on which stories to commission. I also had to organise publication schedules for both the print and online editions, as well as writing some articles of my own.
During lockdown I co-created an online fitness league which aimed to help people’s mental and physical wellbeing. I filmed and edited two challenges per week from May 2020 to our Christmas special at the end of the year, where we raised £500 for Crisis charity. Participants had to film themselves at home and submit their videos for review, and their scores were entered on to an online league. This project has given me experience in many things, such as; running a social media account, running a website, coding, filming and digital editing, and writing copy for videos.
I have also worked on a freelance basis with TransN, a Chinese company that translates Chinese novels into English. I was tasked with reviewing the quality of the translation, determining whether the writing was ready for commercial viewing and making edits where I deemed appropriate.
I worked at a private Spanish school in Navalcarnero with children aged three to thirteen. I also did an extensive two week course at the leading institute Vaughan Academy based in Madrid. This proved to be an eye opening, worthwhile experience due to their progressive approach to teaching.
I volunteered for three months at a Buddhist Monastery just outside of Kathmandu. Here I was the English teacher for all the children there whose ages ranged from four to fifteen. I also ran sessions assisting the adult monks with their language practice.
I am currently a supervisor at Fred and Ginger's Coffee, so have experience in opening and closing the shop independently, overseeing my colleagues and dealing with customers.
