I worked for Aberdeen City Council dealing with complaints of antisocial behaviour for over 30 years, prior to this I worked for 7 years in Residential Child Care in units which were home to teenagers who were displaying the most challenging and disruptive behaviour both at school and at home

My role as an Investigation Officer was extremely interesting, varied and at times extremely difficult. A role in which you would never know who or what you are going to be dealing with.

Every day was different, often having to effectively deal with challenging behaviour, but it can be extremely rewarding when you achieve resolution for the complainer.

I always demonstrated a calm and quiet voice when clients were shouting, angry or frustrated, which was frequent.

I would always show sympathy and listen to try and understand when a client was distressed, upset or emotional, or trying to pull the wool over our eyes!

I would provide guidance and support where needed to victims and witnesses of antisocial behaviour.

I worked well on my own or as part of a team, striving every day to make a difference to the lives of those that I was dealing with.

I worked closely with other internal and external agencies to find solutions to problems, and worked hard to increase knowledge and promote positive awareness of ASBIT.

I also dealt with youth disturbance, environmental issues and complaints from local communities, l would encourage agencies to work together in developing local solutions to local problems. I would work in partnership with other services/ agencies to ensure best practise and value was provided.

I retired from this position in November but do not feel ready to give up work. We moved to Reigate from Aberdeen in December To be closer to our family.

I have over 30 years experience with Aberdeen City Council, dealing with all types of people in often challenging and difficult situation.
