About ESTHER MIRAMONTES:
This year 2024, I have finished the MSc in Immunology & Immunotherapy in the Aberdeen University a programme that was delivered and based on an experienced, multidisciplinary team of internationally renowned researchers in the field of Immunology, Microbiology and Genetic including facilities in the Institute of Medical Science, Foresthill Health Campus and Teaching Hub Lab( old Aberdeen campus), that has contributed to develop of my practical and analytical research skills, providing an improvement of my employability and career prospects acquired so far. The research project has based on biomolecular engineering genetic modification in Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to study the interaction between cohesin subunit and Wapl protein during the cell cycle by BPA crosslink covalent interaction under the supervision of Dr Bin Hu (main supervisor), Professor Ian Stansfield, Dr Monika Gostic and Dr Samantha Miller
Experience
My studies in Biomedical Science, led me through of more advanced areas of Biomedical Science for example how drugs interact with the human body and the importance of aspects of genetics, Microbiology and molecular biology. I studied the advanced diagnostic subjects applied to Biomedical Science, also the comprehension of drug interactions and increase of knowledge of Microbiology and Environmental Health, during of four years, I developed my laboratory research skills with practice in the laboratory. The fourth year, consisted in the development of my knowledge about diagnosis of disease, showing how treatments for disease can be monitored for effectiveness. My laboratory skills were tested by my Research Project, based on how specifics variations in nucleotides of DNA in the human genome, (Single Polymorphism Nucleotide, SPN) cause a mutation in a specific gen that could lead to develop of breast cancer for the mutation BRCA1 1294DEL40
Education
Further studies in Immunology have provided a deep knowledge in diseases and the development of the latest immunotherapies to achieve the maintenance of the health, such as cancer and autoimmune disease and to acquire experience with modern technologies such as state-of-the-art confocal microscopy, electron microscopy and Image stream flow cytometry.
The knowledge acquired during these years, gave me the confident to work in a good manner, with the high standard in universities, industry or biotechnology companies or in hospital diagnostic and pathology laboratories, moreover I can continue to build up and improve the skills of my career.
