I wish to apply for the role of Teacher of Physical Education, as well as express interest in the pastoral leadership position at your school. I am relocating to Singapore in July 2024 with my family (we have already secured accommodation and schooling for our children) and with 19 years of teachingexperience in Physical Education, I believe I would make a strong contributionto the curriculum at your School.

As a senior school Physical Education teacher, I have enjoyed encouraging students to learn through and about physical activity, providing them with an ambitious education that looks to go beyond a syllabus to ensure students make good decisions about their wellbeing. I believe that Physical Education should strive to enable all students to make the most of their abilities through empowering them to understand and appreciate the value of being physically active whilst developing the motivation for making healthy life choices. Having taught the Physical Education examination syllabus to both GCSE and A level students, I understand that educating students in both the theory and practicalities of how to live a healthy lifestyle are equally important, something that I would continue to promote at your school.

Throughout my career I have taught at all Key Stages and this experience has helped me develop strategies to ensure every lesson makes a difference for each student. For example, using adaptive teaching to support all in their differing physical movement as well as challenging students to think about how their movement impacts their participation in team sports. Furthermore, I believe any good Physical Education will go beyond the curriculum. As East London Rugby League Coordinator, I successfully implemented a new rugby league syllabus to The Brittons Academy which became the most participated sport beyond the curriculum. This involved organising county tournaments and gaining funding from the governing body for the sport which, in turn, enriched student participation in co-curricular activities. In my current role, I have taken on the additional responsibility of leading Physical Education for my year group as well as coaching both boys and girls in their respective school teams.Here, I am responsible for the development of knowledge, skills and attitudesthat have supported the life of the students beyond the classroom. I wouldrelish being part of a team that promotes these shared values.

Beyond Physical Education, my position on a Senior Management Team has helped me understand how effective leadership and teamwork can help a child flourish and make the most of their intellect and abilities. With my experience as a Pastoral Head of Year in both primary and senior settings, I have worked closely with students, parents and teachers to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for many students. Within these roles, I have implemented strategies to promote student engagement, wellbeing and academic success. For example, as Head of Year 10, I set up a student wellbeing team and provided support to students facing challenges in their educational journey. Through effective communication with staff, students and parents, I introduced an intervention program, using data on student assessments to ensure that individualised learning plans were put in place. As the whole school Most Able coordinator, I promoted academic excellence in all subjects in the curriculum by delivering CPD sessions on stretching every student to encourage others to pursue better practice.
