Experience
I am a graduate from Birmingham City University where I studied psychology with criminology. I am a hard-working and committed individual who can work efficiently with others in a professional manner. I will always try my best and meet all the requirements of the tasks.
I’m highly motivated and a driven individual. I can show my proactiveness by identifying areas that need improvement and will implement any feedback suggested.
I participated in the Mosaic Mentoring program organised by the princes Trust. It’s a program aimed to empower young people and help improve their skills. Over the course of 7 weeks, I had the opportunity to go into a secondary school and mentor a group of students. Each session was tailored to meet their specific needs, where focus was placed on confidence, career aspirations, personal skills, and academic tools.
- I worked with students, providing support and guidance. By actively listening, I was able to get their feedback at the end and incorporate that into the next session, ensuring their needs were addressed.
- I developed my communication skills when I ran the sessions and also when it came to communicating with students. I ensured everything was conveyed clearly, making sure students understood and could engage in the session.
- I developed a range of activities designed to engage them and help build confidence in their abilities.
- I enhanced my own skills in leadership as I worked alongside 2 other mentors. By working in a group, I was able to utilise my planning and time-management skills. When creating the presentation, I ensured all the activities were tailored to the students and interesting.
I was also a Shout mental health volunteer. I completed training where I learnt how to talk to those in need, good-contact techniques, and ways to offer help. This role is extremely rewarding and relevant to what I want to go into.
- I had the opportunity to talk to those who were struggling mentally, being bullied or need someone to talk to. I developed a range of skills, including:
- Good communication skills- I learned how to talk to those who were in distress in an appropriate manner and provide them with the support they needed.
- I learnt strategies to help individuals manage their emotions and guide them to be more relaxed.
- I also utilised other resources such as online help groups or information regarding additional support and services, that individuals could access in the future.
Administrative Assistant- St Martins Counselling and Psychotherapy
During my 80-hour work placement as an Administrative Assistant at St Martins Counselling and Psychotherapy, I gained hands-on experience in managing client appointments, processing discharges, and handling phone inquiries. This included handling cancellations and rescheduling to optimise the use of available slots. I became proficient in using specialised software for updating client databases, ensuring that all information was accurate. My role required strong multitasking skills as I balanced scheduling, data entry, and client communications. Additionally, I enhanced my problem-solving abilities by effectively addressing client concerns and resolving scheduling conflicts. This experience significantly improved my time management, technical proficiency, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Skills Acquired:
- Time Management: Developed strong time management skills by prioritising tasks
- Attention to Detail: Enhanced my ability to maintain accuracy in data entry and client record management, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Communication: Strengthened my communication skills, particularly in handling sensitive client information and providing excellent service.
- Technical Proficiency: Gained expertise in using various software systems such as Skedda and Acuity for appointment scheduling, database management, and client record-keeping.
- Problem-Solving: Improved my problem-solving abilities by effectively addressing client concerns and finding solutions to scheduling conflicts.
