About Hibah Ahmed:

I am an enthusiastic MSc Social Work student intending to build a purposeful career as a Social Worker. I aim to empower vulnerable people, providing care and support to help better their lives. With an instilled passion for helping children, I am driven to ensure every child feels safe.

Experience

I have extensive work experience with children and young people of all ages from diverse backgrounds. I have just completed my first year of MSc in Social Work at Royal Holloway University to become a qualified Social Worker.

Student Social Worker in Safeguarding and Support Team East, Hounslow Children's Services (January - May 2023): My first 70 day placement for MSc Social Work. I was the allocated student social worker for three Child In Need (CIN) cases, and co-worked on multiple Child Protection (CP) cases and looked after children (LAC) cases going through care proceedings. I chaired meetings, took the minutes, updated care plans, completed statutory visits within the home, school and office with children and families. I completed direct work with children to ascertain their wishes and feelings. I also conducted a presentation to my team on child criminal and sexual exploitation based on training I attended. I have experience liaising with external agencies including housing, schools, police, domestic violence services and alcohol & substance services. I completed social work assessments and made recommendations based on my analyses.

Participation Champion, YoungMinds/NHS (October 2021 - April 2023): A voluntary role in co-production, working with other young people virtually in a collaborative project voicing personal ideas, opinions and strategies to support YoungMinds and the NHS with improvements in accessibility to children and young people’s mental health services across the UK.

Volunteer Co-Ordinator and Participation Lead at Barnardo's, Harrow Horizons (November 2021 - September 2022): Facilitating the Voice and Influence (V&I) panel at Harrow Horizons which consisted of 9 young people post therapeutic intervention, organising innovative events and research projects for V&I members based on their wishes. Promoting Harrow Horizons and V&I projects to professionals and young people across the borough and region. Participating in multiple Barnardo’s bids to open similar therapeutic services across London. Developed a new befriending service for Harrow Horizons and Islington SEMH therapeutic services, involving recruitment and management of young befrienders offering peer support to service users.

Year 2 and Year 4 Teaching Partner and 1:1 SEN TA, Brookside Primary School, (Nov 2020 – July 2021): Teaching students within a classroom and online in KS1 (Year 2) and KS2 (Year 4). Providing 1:1 support for a SEN pupil in Year 4, making immense progress throughout the year in line with their developmental targets. Liaising with parents on a daily basis to collaboratively improve children’s learning and wellbeing. Completing SEN documents including individual education plans (IEPs) for SEN pupils to further their overall development and contributing to end of year reports. Marking pupils’ books daily and conducting academic booster workshops and extra-curricular clubs. Forming excellent working relationships within 2 different teams to consistently deliver high quality education.

Syria Summer Camp, Camp Volunteer (July - August 2019): Forming trusted relationships with children aged 4-14 from refugee backgrounds, working particularly closely with the eldest cohort whilst assisting in their classroom. Aiding external music and theatre companies to deliver activities, ensuring every child has an enjoyable and fulfilling day. Obtained useful knowledge from induction training and e-learning child safeguarding programme with Brent LSCB on supporting children, encouraging openness and positive behaviour.
