About Ian Skinner:
I am a fully qualified gardener who has experience in all aspects of the discipline, I have been part of a team that has won medals at several RHS shows and was also a flower show judge specialising in Begonias and Dahlias. I am a hard working individual whom is comfortable taking ownership and working on my own initiative or am equally comfortable working together as part of a team.
I am a very customer focused person and adaptable and comfortable embracing technology to deliver the right results.
Experience
Apprentice Gardener, Fife Council February 1992 - May 1996
I was responsible for the upkeep of a country park including grass cutting, planting of trees and shrubs and propagation of new plants from cuttings, seeds or grafting.
Part of the team that won a gold medal at Ebbw Vale RHS Flower Show.
Part of the team that won a silver guilt medal at Hampton Court RHS flower show.
Gardener/Greenkeeper, Elmwood College, Cupar June 1996 - April 1998
Whilst working towards my HNC in Horticulture I was employed by the college to help maintain the grounds and the small training golf course, I was also asked to help teach the national certificate students in herbaceous plants, pruning and plant identification among other things.
Garden Centre Assistant, Focus DIY stores, Glenrothes June 2002 - February 2005
My main duties in this role were to assist customers in buying the correct types of plants for the situation in which they were going to be planted whilst maintaining a high standard oh housekeeping to ensure both staff and customers were kept safe.
Chargehand gardener, St Andrews Landscaping, Guardbridge.
My main responsibilities within this position were preparing and turfing/planting gardens on new build sites throughout Scotland, and maintaining these gardens until the clients moved in.
Chargehand Gardener, Arthur & Simon Landscaping, Kirkcaldy.
I was employed as a chargehand gardener to run a small team maintaining established gardens in Fife and the surrounding areas, including advising on new planting schemes, turf maintenance, pruning and the general maintenance of the clients gardens.
Head Gardener, Balbirnie House Hotel, Markinch.
My main duties were maintaining an 18 acre garden attached to a grade A listed mansion house in the heart of fife, I was responsible for all grass cutting, weeding, pruning etc. I also assisted the maintenance manager within the hotel.
Part of the team that won wedding hotel of the year at the Scottish hotel awards in 2014 & 2015.
I have held jobs in the gaps mainly in the retail industry and at present I am employed by My local authority (please see below)
Parking Supervisor, Fife Council, Glenrothes.
I am currently employed as a parking supervisor, working as part of a team dealing with customer questions over the phone or via email, briefing the parking attendant team as to their duties for that day, producing the weekly whereabouts for the attendants to ensure the best coverage of Fife, ensuring that all equipment is charged at the end of a shift and ready for the next day, and that all body cameras are downloaded also dealing with any requests for parking dispensations/suspensions.
