ilke van vuuren

I am Ilke VAN VUUREN and has completed my BEng Tech Honours (Civil Engineering) in 2022 at Nelson Mandela University, Eastern Cape, South Africa.  It is my goal to obtain my Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and register as a professional engineer in the near future.   

My companion is currently a Royal Marine in training.  I really want to join him in the United Kingdom as soon as possible to start our life journey together.

 A little bit about who I am and why I am applying for this position at your Company  :

• I am result driven and always strive for quality and apply process and discipline towards optimizing performance to achieve tasks and objectives. 
  • I’ve been in the top 10 academic achievers from primary school to date. 
  • I was presented with a Golden Key after my first year and second year of study which indicates that I am performing under the top 15% of my class. This is one of the highest awards that is granted at the university and it is a great achievement to be part of the Golden Key Honour Society of top achievers in South Africa. 
  • Although Covid 19 has put a huge physical and emotional strain on society and us as students, I have still achieved 11 distinctions in my BEng Tech (Civil Engineering) Degree [2019 to 2021] and 7 distinctions in my Honours Degree [2022]. 
  • I strive to always do my best and complete every task or project with success.   This behaviour was also applied towards my studies and will definitely still apply when I am an employee at your Company.

• I am a critical and creative thinker – To be creative is an important aspect to this career path and I tend to always be creative and think critically when doing assignments and projects. This will thus help me when I will be working in the industry with many different problems to solve. I love creating and designing and it is one of my passions to be unique in the illustrations & plans I create.  

• Excellent Researcher  :  I am methodical, probing and resourceful.  In my last semester I completed a research thesis on comparing the effects of the shear strength, capacity and deflection behaviours of triangular and rectangular reinforcement in RC beams.  I believe that any project needs proper research and planning.  I do this on a daily basis in my academics and sport.  I plan my goals and develop a realistic plan that works in order to achieve them.

• Excellent interpersonal skills   :  I am a good communicator, leadership, high integrity, works well with others, motivates and encourages regardless of race, gender and creed.   I was part of the Senior Debating team in high school and this enhance my interpersonal skills because I believe that it is important for any person to differ from others in a civilized non-emotional manner.  It also broadens my horizons by listening to how others see things.   I was also a member of the drama club and the leader of group projects various of times in high school and University which taught me to understand and communicate with individuals of different cultures, the way they think, the way they do things. This made me realize that we complement one another and that there is no space in our world for differences because of gender, race and creed. 

• Completer-finisher / Checks and Follows up  :  The reason I set goals is to achieve them.  I will never start something without finishing it with success. My academic achievements and future career, are a high priority on my list.  I thrive on time-management and plan and organize my daily tasks accordingly.  I will never be satisfied with failure.  Success drives me.
