About Inayah Rahman:
I am a dedicated and self motivated individual who aspires to continue to develop my understanding of biochemistry to a deeper level. My interest in science began as a child during science lessons, especially the interactive and investigation aspects. I thrived out why life works the way it does, how each molecule works perfectly with another and found that my interests deepened the more I learnt. I feel as though by working with laboratory will be the key to understanding the wonders of life.
I have attended a boarding school, Jaamia-Tul-Imaam-Muhammad-Zakariyyah, for the entirety of my secondary and sixth form education. Alongside the curriculum, I have studied an islamic curriculum which included lessons and exams in subjects such as Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic ruling and history. I worked hard to develop the skills I would need to be a successful biochemistry student, by choosing Chemistry and maths A-levels. As well as that I took Arabic and Urdu A-levels which were a requirement at my school. Not only did I work hard within lessons, I also used my pare time to research and study around topics I was particularly interested in, such as quaternary ammonium salts, redox titrations, enzymes and especially protein and DNA. In addition to subject knowledge, I was able to develop my organisational skills; time management, my ability to prioritise deadlines, workload management as well as developing the revision strategies that work best for me. Also coming from a boarding school, I have progressed and mastered the skills to be able to not only work with different people but alive live with people, which I strongly believe is a key factor to life in general. I am able to follow a schedule and follow rules and given instructions. This would undoubtedly help me as a university student enabling me to juggle all of my responsibilities. Outside of study time, I enjoy cooking, reading and even watching programmes. I find maintaining a healthy level of balanced activities enables me to feel refreshed, energised and focused for my studies. As I mentioned before that I took chemistry and maths A-levels as those are my two favourite subjects. It might seem a bit strange that I want to take Biochemistry and hadn't taken biology at all. However my decision to take this course only arose in one of my chemistry lessons, where we studied about enzymes. This specific lesson amazed me. It took me back to when I was a biology GCSE student learning about the substrate and the active site of an enzyme to be sitting in a lesson where I actually learn the chemistry behind it too. I was startled to know that everything in the human body can have charges too. It just went further from there, the link between biology and chemistry was so fascinating. I just knew from that second that this is what I want to learn about in my future. I knew this was the course for me. Of course my choice in maths which I strongly do not regret as it really helped me exercise my brain and challenged me to keep going.
I hope to acquire a job as a lab technician and be able to participate in research which will be beneficial to the greater population. I wouldn’t say I have much experience in the lab, but I wish to gain that opportunity from this course. In addition I hope to be able to help the future with my knowledge and new skills. I know there will be many obstacles and challenges along the way and I am confident that with my skills set I will be able to preserve and overcome anything.
Experience
At my school I would help the younger students by carrying out tuition sessions on the weekends for them.
