Experience
Dundee Hospitality Hub | January 2025 - Present
Dundee
In January I signed up to join Hub International’s Hospitality Course. This course ran in Apex Hotel and The Helm in Dundee, covering all the key skills needed to start a career in the hospitality industry. Throughout the course we were trained by industry experts in both a classroom and practical environment. I also successfully completed my formal Food Safety Lvl 2 qualification in February 2025.
Workshops included:
- Barista training
- Introduction to Mixology
- Confidence and Anxiety Management
- Interview Skills
- Customer Service
- Professional Cookery
I also worked for a week as Front-of-House for Apex Hotel’s bar and restaurant as part of my work experience, of which I found immensely enjoyable and rewarding.
Uppertunity | September 2024 - January 2025
Dundee
Groundskeeper’s Assistant
I have been working with an experienced tradesman of 40 years who has travelled from Ukraine to Dudhope Castle, assisting him with maintenance and construction projects for Uppertunity, a learning disability charity. We make birdhouses, planter benches and more for members to design and paint. In exchange I assist him with his English language education and help him comfortably communicate with the people around him.
Alexander Community Development | August 2024 - Present
Dundee
I joined ACD in August, interested in gaining a breadth of practical and workplace-related knowledge. I took their trades course, working with them for 7 weeks and gaining 4 work-related qualifications as well as seizing various experience-related opportunities. For example; I worked for 2 days in a team making sure a house was renovation-ready by sanding, filling and painting all the walls as well as working with wood and tools, erecting scaffolding and strengthening my professional and labour skills.
I also had to undergo Mindset Training by doing a barefoot Glass and Lego walk, as well as break arrows on my neck and punch through wooden boards, which I took part in enthusiastically.
