Administrative
About Isabel Lawrence:
I have a lot of prior experience in many different areas such as creativity, education and teaching which all demonstrate my ability to be organised, motivated, as well as proactive. I have worked with teaching both adults and children windsurfing and paddleboarding and as a result this has developed my ability to be flexible and proactively think on my feet. With my experience as a windsurfing and paddleboarding instructor, I have developed strong communication skills and an ability to explain and gauge a concept to differing abilities. I have also developed the ability to work under extreme pressure and with challenging people, which has improved my professional communication skills. This has also allowed me to develop the ability to succeed at working independently as much as I enjoy mutually collaborating with other team members. I am attentive and love taking on challenges to both help others and better my professional self. With my love for water sports other passions include reading non-fiction literature in which I have learned a huge range of interesting things, music, sports, organising, cooking as well as creating workbooks online for personal enjoyment which I believe has been integral to the betterment of my development as well as friends/families.
Experience
2016-2017 – Oxfordshire Narrowboats – I worked during school holidays cleaning boats, cleaning the B&B and setting up boats for people to stay on. I enjoyed being part of a team whilst also developing the ability to work autonomously.
2015-2018 – Oxford Sail Training Trust – Taught windsurfing for 3 summers to children aged 5-17 at Farmoor Reservoir. Worked alongside Beth Williamson and Richard Beardsley teaching Team15 developing young people’s windsurfing skills and coaching them to compete at a national level. I enjoyed this voluntary role as it developed my teaching skills and ability to break down a concept to a range of abilities, whilst also promoting a safe and fun environment. Watching the development of my pupils and being able to see them compete successfully was particularly rewarding.
May 2019 – September 2019 – Southampton Water Sports Activity Centre – Spent a summer teaching children and adults to windsurf. This further developed my skills as a teacher and my ability to communicate professionally. This was rewarding as it allowed me to teach a sport, I am particularly passionate about.
May 2020 – September 2020 – NHS Test and Trace operative – Worked for 8 weeks at Oxford Parkway testing site as a testing operative. This further developed my professional communication skills along with my ability to work to effectively adhering to strict deadlines.
May 2021 – September 2021 – Active Camps – Worked as an activity leader in Oxford providing fun and engaging activities for children aged 4-15 in Oxfordshire.
September 2021 – July 2022 – PGCE Placements – I worked at Cutteslowe Primary School for 8 weeks teaching a year 6 class and at Queen-Emma’s Primary School for 8 weeks teaching a year 1/2 class. This experience confirmed that I wish to become a primary school teacher. This was parYcularly rewarding when you see a child understand a concept that you are teaching and knowing that you have made an impact on that child’s education and inspired them. I voluntarily read to the children on a one-to-one basis at Cutteslowe Primary School in order to help them with their reading and be]er their education.
September 2022-2023- Year 4 class teacher at Tyndale Community School – Working as a class teacher for a year was not only challenging but extremely rewarding. With 30 children I learnt a lot in terms of using a range of different software problems but also about communication, motivation and how to stay calm in tricky situations. Being organised was one of my key skills which assisted me in my role as a class teacher.
October 2023 – December 2023 – Restaurant assistant in Orangery – Blenheim Palace – I worked as a waiter at Blenheim Palace serving afternoon tea as well as lunch. This demonstrated my ability to deal with exclusive, classy guests.
