About Jake Savage:
After spending several years working in-house at a prominent London-based camera rental company, I am excited to return home to Ireland, eager to expand my knowledge, skills, and experience within the local Irish industry. I have gained valuable on-set experience as a trusted Guarantee Engineer, responsible for ensuring the success of numerous camera systems on large Cinematic Multicam projects, including concerts and stand-ups. My roles have involved handling, servicing, and configuring a wide range of cameras, lenses, and supplementary equipment on location to ensure the smooth production of all projects I am a part of.
Experience
I have worked at Verve Media Ltd. since 2021, where I am the Lead Technician, overseeing the Engineering Department and ensuring our cine cameras and lenses, like ARRI Mini LF and Sony VENICE, are in optimal condition. I have also organized the manufacturing of equipment casings with third-party companies and shared my technical knowledge with colleagues.
Prior to that, from 2018 to 2021, I was a Junior Prep Technician at Video Europe Ltd. I gained experience in cleaning and testing various lenses and cameras, including Canon C300 and Sony PXW-FS7, and managed asset databases, equipment damages, and client communications.
In 2020-2021, I volunteered as a Videographer for UKfilmNet, creating educational videos for low-income youth in filmmaking, handling camera operations, lighting setups, and production support.
Throughout my career, I've been dedicated to the film industry, always seeking growth and excellence while mentoring new technicians and contributing positively to the field.
Education
I completed a Bachelor's degree in Film and Video Production Technology with First Class Honours at the University of Surrey from 2016 to 2020. Throughout the program, I gained expertise in operating cameras like Sony PXW-FS7 and Canon C300 with Canon EF lenses. My coursework covered various modules, including Cinematography, Film and Broadcast Technology, TV Studio Practice, Computers and Coding, Electronics and Signal Processing, and Advanced Colour Science.
In addition to theoretical learning, I actively participated in practical projects, serving as Assistant Camera and Video Technician on the award-winning short film 'No Change' (2020) and managing Vision Engineering and Studio Lighting for StagTV's 'Live From Studio X' (2020). I also conducted a Technical Research Project exploring the Low Light Capabilities of Pro-amateur and Professional Cameras.
Although I prepared for a live game show as the Technical Manager, the project's full production roles were canceled due to COVID-19. Despite the challenges, I persevered and developed proficiency in video editing and colour grading using Adobe Premiere Pro and Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve. My education and practical experiences have provided me with a solid foundation in film and video production, enabling me to excel in my career in the industry.
