About James Smith:

I have extensive learning digital learning experience for both public and private organisations. Worked alongside industry experts to design and create a wide range of competency-based training courses using adaptive technologies. Responsible for digital training design and facilitator for the immersive learning experiences known as Hydra for the British Transport Police. Produced a series of training resources built around the guidance of the College of Policing’s Personal Safety manual, culminating in a briefing video with the Assistant Chief Constable and a lead firearms instructor on the topic of 'major incident first responder operational briefing', shown as part of every briefing before public events. Responsible for the development and delivery of courses within the Defence Learning Environment (DLE), creating standard operating procedures for video transcriptions, course content tracking and audio production process for Language school. Involved in designing the Western Balkans online content as part of blended course delivery in explosives safety management. Developed APMG-awarded Foundation and Practitioner in Change Management eLearning course design for Aldi (2022).

Experience

  • Key role in delivering the first series of online courses for the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation trust, building on their reputation, and providing access to their training globally. 
  • The production of 9 courses within the first 6 months at Filtered, for a 2015 Learning Technologies launch event. 
  • As part of Filtered, gained two industry awards in 2016 for ‘Learning Technologies and Innovation in Learning’. 
  • Commended by Co-founders of Filtered for helping to resolve issues and to manage resources to bring the project in on time for a high-profile client. 
  • In answer to client requests for additional features to boost engagement, created and up-skilled members of the content team to create animated concept explainer videos. 
  • Supported the customer service team to track and review issues across 17 recently launched courses for RRC, and in collaboration with the course design team, lead and upskilled an additional agency staff member to make the amendments and ensure they were all completed in a timely manner. 
  • Managed 2 contractors, to develop, and deliver 120 branching videos across 6 different topics for SAGE publishing within a 12-week timeframe. 
  • Specially selected to design and lead workshops for trainers and senior members of staff at the British Transport Police on the use of video for training in and out of the classroom. 
  • Worked directly with the Personal Safety Team for the British Transport Police to produce a series of officer safety training videos culminating in a briefing video with the Assistant Chief Constable on the topic of major incident first responder operational briefing. 
  • Implemented Standard Operating Procedures for course mapping and tracking documentation and audio transcription and production processes for the language school for the Ministry of Defence. 
  • The design and development of a suite of responsive, SCORM-enabled eLearning packages for Network Rail Commercial and training materials (eLearning content, face-to-face content, video production) for the Procurement Capability Programme contracted by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
