Healthcare
About James Walker:
I am a Housing Officer based in Burton-Upon-Trent with a degree in (Bsc) Counselling and Psychotherapy Principles and Practices from the University of Derby in which I often employ techniques learned through-out my time in education to make me as effective as possible within my career.
Experience
- An all encompassing role as a Housing Officer providing accommodation assistance to Asylum Seekers, from therapeutic relationships to building maintenance and support during the Asylum process within the Home Office's Asylum Accommodation and Support Contract (AASC). Achieved through a forward facing role with residents, but also, directly liaising with other stakeholders on their behalf where necessary. Further, to ensure adequate and appropriate accommodation is provided for residents through monthly inspections, and keeping accurate records of any maintenance or building issues.
- Support work focused on improving the lives of those accessing the service through a multitude of techniques and practices, such as Unconditional Positive Regard, as other aspects of other therapeutic models where appropriate, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Gestalt. Further, using these techniques to enhance client life skills and integration within the community and assist them in living more robust fulfilling lives.
Education
Developed a detailed understanding of theoretical, social, cultural and ideological contexts of counselling and psychotherapy, and how to use these in practice. Additionally, the personal growth required through-out the education surrounding my own life as a result of continued therapeutic supervision.
