Experience

Trainer Assessor/Skills Coach in Mechanical Engineering

Stoke on Trent College

September 2006 - Present

During 2010 to present date, I am a Trainer Assessor/Skills Coach in Mechanical Engineering.

This role involves me as a single point of contact for employers working with them to resolve issues and support the apprentice through their apprenticeship framework and standards at level 2 and level 3.

Since 2019 my role has developed further to also manage apprentices who are on ST0154 MOET – Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Standard (Electromechanical Technician pathway).

I have also managed apprentices at level 2 and level 3 within fabrication and welding, engineering maintenance and machining.

During my employment prior to 2010, I have been mainly assessing with some teaching duties which have changed on a yearly basis to cope with apprenticeship demands. April 2008, I taught fifty percent of time and the remainder assessing. For my assessing role, I look after a caseload of apprentices 16 to 24 years old completing apprenticeship frameworks to level 3. Initially for the first 15 months of my employment, I had supported mainly fabrication and welding apprentices who were studying a modern apprenticeship as well as adults studying NVQ level 3 in mechanical engineering in their company. This has now become fully dedicated to mechanical engineering apprentices and adult students.

My teaching role has involved me delivering courses to 14-16 year olds and post 16 age group. The courses I have taught are as follows;

1)     Performing Engineering Operations ( Milling, Turning, Fitting, Computer Aided Design,
          Materials, Quality, Health & Safety )– Full Time and Part Time students.

2)  Level 3 2800 Advanced apprentices – Manufacturing Engineering Principles, Computer
           Numerical Control, Working effectively and safely in an engineering environment

Product Design Technician Instructor

City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College

November 1993 - September 2006

I had worked in the product design department initially as a design technology technician. This involved working for Geography and drama department to assist in the production of teaching aids for both departments.

After three years the role later became a trainer, instructor / technician, which was dedicated to the product design department. This role involved the support for GCSE and A-Level students who require workshop machines – metalworking and woodworking to produce their projects. My role here became demonstrating, instructing and training of such equipment.

This role allowed me to teach a variety of engineering courses to full time students and adults. Courses I have taught are as follows;

GNVQ Manufacturing, Interior Design, CAD/CAM, A-Level Design Technology, 2 Dimensional Computer Aided Design.

Craft Apprentice Machinist

Birkett-ycol Limited & GFS Engineering

September 1987 - July 1993

I completed a 4-year craftsmanship apprenticeship at 2 engineering companies. The companies were, Birkett-ycol Limited and GFS Engineering Limited. My specialist area of work was in machining, producing a wide range of components to high quality, high calibre standard. I am widely experienced in the operation and maintenance of machine tools.
