Experience
Librarian Assistant, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, Stepping Hill Hospital. May 2025 – July 2025.
Working towards my postgraduate degree in Library and Information Management, I am completing a work experience placement within a Stockport medical library. From this, the following skills have been developed:
- Confident in the use of the of the online library system, KOHA – I was able to successfully contribute to the management of the medical library’s collection by withdrawing several books. Through KOHA, I was also able to issue, renew and cancel book reservations.
- Aware of the KnowledgeShare platform and the services it offers – I booked members onto the KnowledgeShare platform and promoted its use within users as it offered a range of relevant, critical resources which would benefit their own work, research and professional development, i.e. Evidence-based searching service, catered updates, and skills sessions.
- Produced and developed a user experience (UX) and design interface study of the Trust’s library intranet and public website page. This resulted in strengths and weaknesses being identified, and suggestions for future improvement being made when regarding the navigation and utilisation of the library page.
Archive Volunteer, Richard Roberts Archive. March 2025 – Present.
- Efficiently learned and confidently implemented the archival guidelines which were standardised practice within the organisation when handling and cataloguing a wide range of products.
- Product Filing – Assessed newly acquired and donated items, determining their condition before accurately alphabetising and chronologically filling them within pre-existing catalogues.
- Batch Processing – Effectively utilised pre-existing databases and archival knowledge to help date and catalogue items that were donated within a batch and otherwise had no clear signposting of when or where they were created/originated from.
