Experience
My principal experience is in delivering and developing high-quality general business subjects from HNC and HND as well as SCQF Levels 7,8 and 9 in leadership, management, economics, entrepreneurship, marketing and anything related such as branding, advertising and marketing communications. My current role is as Programme Manager of online MSc Management and MBA programmes with the University of Liverpool, while I was previously Subject Lead in Business and Management at INTO University of Stirling, delivering SCQF Levels 7, 8 and 9 (pre-Masters) with responsibilities for module design, delivery, high quality teaching, verification and transitioning programme design for different levels. I have delivered to professional postgraduate level with the Chartered Institute of Marketing and have also delivered business and management lectures in a UAE business school - these are online and recorded and to DBA and BBA level. My teaching experience has extended to teaching entrepreneurship and the writing of business plans into business courses and into a range of vocational and non-vocational college courses.
I have an MSc in Marketing from the University of South Wales and the professional postgraduate diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing while I studied entrepreneurship at the prestigious Babson College in Boston, USA and follow-up courses for teachers of entrepreneurship. I am a member of the CIM and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and Royal Society of the Arts and I enjoy networking in each and using other sources to keep up to date with my knowledge and practice, both academically and subject-related. I am keen to teach and manage at the higher level and believe I have the wide-ranging depth of experience and ability to do so while I have extensive experience developing courses, online for my own business and at FE level for remote learners. I have a keen interest in pedagogy from my teaching qualification and an online Harvard course called ‘Leaders of Learning’. I have nurtured professional relationships with a number of national and international educators seeking best practice and learning from best practice. I gained FHEA status at the University of Stirling with an application which required no corrections and influenced a potential academic paper on ‘Lecturer as curator’ in discussions with my application mentor.
I have a track record of inspiring students in the classroom via lectures and seminars and working with them as a group and individuals, using a variety of teaching methods. I have a 100% pass rate in my CIM teaching (at professional postgraduate level and supervising dissertations) and my HND classes too performed particularly well, with the KPIs in early retention, retention and achievement very high in both when I was course leader and running a department. I have been quite innovative in my methods, using social and digital media as an early adopter, taking students on local and international visits and achieving Leadership Development assessor training with EFQM. I was awarded the student-nominated RATE Award in the University of Stirling as well as five INTO learning and teaching awards. The student experience is key for me and I would be happy to attend professional development courses and events as I am a dedicated lifelong learner. I hold a Masters as outlined and I would be happy to work towards PhD if required.
Furthermore, my LinkedIn profile includes many recommendations from former students, many of whom now hold high profile positions particularly in marketing in the UK and throughout the world. I have experience in teaching across a range of SCQF levels from 7-10, from small groups to sizeable classes and have taught students from a variety of countries and cultural backgrounds, and with different language levels, notably in my role with a UAE business school and at INTO.
