About Josh Elliott:
Applied Statistics and Operational Research master's graduate.
Currently working as an operational analyst at TPGroup. Experience in various OR and Statistical Techniques, with particular interest in healthcare modelling. Competent in R, Python and Simul8.
Experience
My role with TPGroup is as an operational analyst and has involved work in the fields of defence and aerospace. Initially the role involved running workshops and tabletop exercises with military personnel so assess the potential use of Robotic Autonomous Systems (RAS) in defence. This initially involved creating concepts, use cases and writing reports, however my current role is to lead on the modelling for quantitative outputs to assess against previously identified Measures of Merit (MoMs). I am currently building a discrete event simulation model (in Simul8), with graphical outputs provided in R. Furthermore, I am involved in an aircraft survivability model which is being built in excel, as well as creating a GUI in Python to allow for user input into a Chemical, Biological, Radiological' (CBR) model (also in Simul8).
Education
Driven master’s graduate with a distinction in ‘Operational Research, Applied statistics and Financial Risk’ from Cardiff University, with a particular interest in healthcare modelling. I have experience in statistical analysis and various OR modelling techniques, such as discrete event simulation, linear programming/optimisation and systems dynamics modelling. However, I am keen to learn new skills and expand my knowledge, particularly in medical statistics/healthcare modelling. I am very approachable with good communication skills, gained from working with people of all ages in customer-orientated work, as well as always being involved in team sports.
My interest in working in the healthcare sector is driven by my desire to help people and hopefully my work would have a positive impact on other people’s lives. My dissertation project was on dental care in Africa, where I built a discrete event simulation model in Simul8 to provide insight into how the WHO could see a decrease in oral health disease by 10% in Africa by 2030. This was a Kings College London project, supervised by Dr Jenifer Gallagher.
