Social

About Joshua Hart:

I consider myself to be a highly motivated and efficient worker, a very competent oral and verbal communicator, possessing the necessary skills and instincts to contribute effective publicity and social media through my passion for visual media and communications.

Experience

I worked at Fujisankei Communications International with a team to set up and support live news broadcasts to Japan. I researched and identified British media articles of interest to Japanese media and wrote a press release for the Praemium Imperiale arts prize on the Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui.  I also have had editorial work experience with The British Medical Journal (BMJ). During my time with the BMJ I turned a press release into a news story, attended manuscript meetings and editorial team meetings, and learnt about the different roles in a large print and digital media organisation, including technical and features editor and the Head of Journalism. I also focused on how the BMJ could make more use of digital marketing and social media to widen its audience.

I participated in a Digital Marketing internship and consultancy project with Relate Nottingham. The project built on existing analysis of Relate’s website to review, propose, and implement recommendations to the website’s design, function, and content to ensure it is fit for purpose for the audiences of all clients, including individuals in the community, and the local employers who use the service. Participants were split into two marketing teams, Business to Business (B2B) or Business to Customer (B2C). I worked in the B2B team perusing both the Relate Nottinghamshire website and Ideas and Suggestions file to find ways to optimise and improve potential business partners’ digital experience.

I am also an avid film and television enthusiast, having recently worked at BFI Southbank during the 2022 London Film Festival as a Visitor Services Assistant. Working within BFI Southbank during the festival was a stimulating opportunity, giving me the privilege to observe how a renowned film festival functions as well as ushering fascinating films from around the world and question and answer events with various directors, actors, and producers. My experience at BFI Southbank served to expand my cinematic knowledge and passion for the film and television industry even further!

I have also worked at various other jobs which have developed my team, people, and communications skills and service mentality. I worked at The Flask public house both in the kitchen and front of house and in the restaurant at Wimbledon during the 2022 Championships. As a Visitor Services Assistant at BFI Southbank it was essential to work with the various teams which make the festival run smoothly and effectively such as Events, Transport, Human Resources, and the rest of my Front of House co-workers.

Education

Since finishing my undergraduate degree in English and History at The University of Nottingham, graduating with a First Class Honours, I have honed my writing and research skills, developed an attention to detail to produce quality written work, the ability to communicate succinctly and persuasively both orally and verbally, all whilst meeting numerous strict deadlines.

I have an avid interest in visual media and communications, channelling this through my passion for photography, film, and television. For instance, my final year dissertation on photojournalism during the Iraq War, looked specifically at British photojournalism and the process of embedding with British and US troops. The research and writing have fortified my passion for the role of media in world affairs, the effectiveness of modern visual storytelling, and the retrospective historical narrative. I have enjoyed expanding my research skills, such as arranging and conducting interviews with several leading British photojournalists. These aided my research, but also led to fascinating informal conversations about wider topics. Such as visual media’s impact on public relations and how constantly evolving technology affects the narrative of war and visual storytelling.
