Julian Grant

My name is Julian Grant I am a British Citizen who is currently completing my MSc in Investment Analysis at Aston University with a concentration in finance, statistics and data analysis.  The degree has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program.  I previously attained a first-class undergraduate degree in Financial Economics at the University of Kent. I am confident that my diligent research and analytical skills will allow me to excel in this role if provided with the opportunity to work at your organisation. I have obtained a great combination of customer service and interpersonal skills based on my work experience and studies so far. My education to date has aided my development in my critical thinking, problem solving and enhanced my method to think logically.

As a master’s student I had the opportunity to work with large data sets. I utilized various statistical techniques and programming languages such as Python and R to analyse and interpret the data. In my Python for Finance module, I worked in a team to manipulate, summarise and extract from large financial datasets.  I have acquired knowledge and understanding of the theoretical foundations of financial concepts. Additionally, I have gained insight into fundamental principles that guide financial management decisions and the various challenges associated with such decision-making processes. In practical situations, I have applied mathematical methods to aid in making informed business judgments regarding subjects such as share valuation and investment evaluation. These experiences have equipped me with valuable skills in utilizing quantitative techniques for facilitating effective decision-making within commercial settings.

My work experience has enabled me to acquire customer focused skills. During 2017 I was given the opportunity to obtain work experience at the Ministry of Finance Headquarters for the Bermuda Government. I was able to gain relevant knowledge in understanding how the fiscal economy of Bermuda works as well as how to approach challenges in the workplace. 

Not only have I attained work experience in the financial sector of the Bermuda Government, but I have also volunteered at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel as a beach attendant during the summer of 2016 and 2017. I thoroughly enjoyed assisting guests and going beyond expectations to make their stay at the hotel memorable. Working in the hotel allowed me to interact with different people from around the world which allowed me to experience different cultures and personalities.  Through the responsibilities of this work experience I acquired enhanced organisation and communications skills. I have also volunteered at Smash Table Tennis Recreational Center. I enjoyed mentoring and training junior campers in their table tennis skills and watching them flourish during the camp.
