Karen Abdel-Megid

I am a part time bouldering coach for children and beginners. I have 15 years of experience in education, teaching Early Years and Year One. I currently work part time in a primary school as a librarian for all year groups. 

April 2024 - current, Avid Climbing:

I have retrained as a site specific bouldering coach and enjoy teaching beginner skills to children and adults to foster a love of climbing and physical activity. I am also a shift manager when required. I assist in keeping the center clean and operational, register guests, coach school groups, youth sessions and one to one sessions. I complete health and safety walks, serve refreshments, cash up and lock up the centre at end of day/ open and set up at beginning of day. 

April 24 - current (one year contract) Sandlings Primary School:

In the last year I have set up a library in a Primary School, creating and delivering a scheme of work that develops library and Literacy skills through reading, enquiry and imagination using engaging texts. The set up process involves researching texts, collaborating with teachers, ordering, organizing and referencing of books. I also created an environment that felt welcoming and warm, ordering and building furniture, choosing cushions and plants and other resources to enhance the space. 

March 2023 - current

National Trust, Sutton Hoo. Volunteer.

I volunteer at Sutton Hoo on a flexible basis at times that suit my schedule. Through the last year I have assisted in workshops for school groups, forest school, family arts and crafts, bird box building, photography courses, forest bathing, car parking attendants, Walk with Us guide and house visitor welcome. I enjoy the outdoors and volunteer for as many outdoor activities as I can. 

2011-2023 Egypt, British International school:

The education sector has provided me with experience and skills in health and safety, safeguarding, problem solving, multi-tasking, teamwork, time management and strong communication. I have spent 15 years working with the EYFS framework and Year One National Curriculum.
