Karen Lowes

 I have nine years experience in designing repeat and placement prints for gifting, fashion and home. I am currently acting as a part time freelance designer at Decorum Tiles as well running a sustainable ocean-inspired gifting business showcasing my own work. I am currently available for more frequent freelance design work.

For three years I held the role of Print Designer at Seasalt, which gave me invaluable experience in cross team collaboration and working to tight deadlines whilst aligning with the brand’s clear aesthetic. I designed repeat prints across mens and womens clothing collections, as well as t-shirt graphics and accessories placements which I presented clearly and confidently to key stakeholders. 

Before Seasalt I worked for National Trust as Retail Design Assistant. During my time there, I played a huge part in creating and developing their successful design handwriting, conducted market research, presented moodboards to the buying teams as well as designed prints that were commercial and communicated the National Trust’s values.

Since these two in house roles, I have worked as a freelance designer alongside running my own business, Kelpi Studio. This has really enabled me to keep in line with current trends whilst also pushing the limits with my own signature style and use of colour which has had a brilliant response.

In terms of skills, I have a beautifully loose yet considered hand painting style which is where my work always starts its journey. I am also proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, which I use to create on-brand, high-quality print designs from my illustrations. I can conduct market research and produce mood boards, tap into current trends and follow seasonal briefs successfully which is reflected in my work.
