Transport Team Manager & Deputy Shift Operations Manager.

Sept 2001 - April 2013: Tibbett & Britten, Exel & Tesco - Thurrock, Kiln Farm & Harlow.

Deputy Shift Operations Manager. I deputised for both the Transport Manager & the Shift Operations Manager. Responsible for the performance and costs of all key Transport Operations processes. Managing a 90% service level to 234 stores across the Southeast region, resulting in £30k p.a. reduction in department overheads over the first 5 years.

Managed the start-up of a new 800,000 sq ft depot, establishing that DC into a sustainable business, through delivering 1.4m cases at peak week in Christmas 2001, to delivering over 5m cases regularly each week.

Led and coached a Transport team of 16 Team Managers, 17 clerks & 245 drivers, achieving measurable improvements in targets and objectives to deliver continuous improvement to Transport Processes through a 24/7 operation.

Co-ordinated the key processes to ensure optimum performance, e.g., Teamleader and Clerical rosters, driver training and debriefing and Tachograph compliance, including Health & Safety, drivers’ hours, in line with the drivers Working Time Directive.

Continuous review and evaluation of the Operations Processes and their outcomes through the use of appropriate K.P.I’s. I headed a management team to implement a new driver shift roster, to improve productivity, this continues to be in use.

Developed the team through PDP to provide support to the succession plan for the DC. Eleven clerks working under myself were promoted to full Team Manager Status in the 12 years.

Identify opportunities for improvement and facilitated their implementation, by using start and end of shift briefings within transport and warehouse. Enhancing working relationships and communication ensuring that the site values are seen as an integral part of all management processes and practices.

Warehouse Team Manager & Deputy Shift Manager: Thurrock & Harlow.

2½ year deployment into the warehouse allowed me to expand my logistics knowledge, giving me a broader view of how Tesco Distribution works overall. I experienced the Goods in, Assembly, Goods out and loading bay areas, and how they are all interconnected. This allowed me to challenge many preconceived views of how my team’s role and the role of others at the Depot.

I deputised for the Shift Managers in their absence, covering the 24/7 shift requirements day by day.
