Katrin Franke

I am a senior lecturer in marketing and apprenticeships at London South Bank University (LSBU) Business School with a professional background that spans media production, cross-border joint ventures and small business management. In my role I am the Academic Lead for Apprenticeships for and Course Director to all Business School Apprenticeship Programmes.

The most exciting part of my work is to help students develop their critical thinking so that they generate ideas that lead to in depth discussions. It shows that they do not expect marketing theory to pop out ready made solutions. It also shows their understanding that business environments comprise dynamics and uncertainties that need flexible management.

My doctoral thesis is titled How small brands grow – A Dirichlet analysis of the small brand syndrome (completed at LSBU in 2020). 

I am passionate about teaching and sharing best practice across classrooms. I am part of a group of Peer Observers at the LSBU Business School. We set-up and run the observation scheme to ensure quality in teaching and student satisfaction. Noteworthy achievements in the areas of teaching and student support have been the nomination for The Alumni Distinguished Impact Award at the 2023 LSBU Education Awards, the winning of the Academic Advice Champion at the 2022 LSBU Education Award, the winning of the LSBU Business School Star Award in 2022, as well as the nominations for both Best Assessment & Feedback and Outstanding Lecturer at the 2019 LSBU Education Awards.

Further, I have a MSc in International Marketing (LSBU), a BA in Applied Media and Communication Studies (Ilmenau), hold a Retail Business Management Apprenticeship Certificate and am a AMA Professional Certified Digital Marketer.
