About Lydia Jones:

I am currently a second-year fashion design student studying at Leeds University. By learning from and working with professionals through an internship, I will have the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge of the fashion industry and I am keen to get hands on to build my practical experience.

I enjoy both design and construction and am prepared to use the different design applications that are popular within the industry. Being creative, I enjoy using different mediums in my work and am not afraid of being experimental. Through my university course I have experienced designing for a specific brand, developing skills in designing for different styles, seasons and collections. When given a brief I am keen to carry out research to ensure I am fully informed about what and who I am designing for. That said, I am happy to develop my own ideas and thoughts to create a range of designs that are both unique and appropriate for the brand.

Experience

Employment History

Community Play Team Member – Flintshire County Council Playscheme (July – August 2021)

As Play Team Member I was jointly responsible for the supervision of outdoor play activities for groups of children aged between 5 and 11 years. The role required me to have a strong sense of responsibility ensuring the health and safety of the children taking part in activities during the supervised sessions. I used my creativity and organisational skills to plan and deliver an interesting variety of activities to keep all the children entertained for two hours each day, taking into consideration the age range and different interests and abilities of the participants. Trained in basic First Aid, I administered first aid for the children if a minor injury was incurred. I was also responsible for maintaining records and providing reports to Playscheme Supervisors including site inspections, health and safety procedures, accident/injury logs.

Playscheme Buddy – Flintshire County Council Playscheme (August 2021)

During the second part of the summer Playscheme, I worked with 3 individual children with additional needs on a one-to-one basis. These children required extra support to fully participate in Playscheme activities and it was my job to ensure they felt as comfortable as possible and had equal opportunities to participate in activities.. I encouraged and supported them to interact with different children at the sites, enabling them to build their confidence and increase their independence. I had to be fully observant of the environment and conditions during sessions and apply caution to the games played to ensure the safety of each child dependent on their age, ability and individual needs.

Kitchen Assistant – Kingswood Outdoor Education, Colomendy (July – August 2019)

Colomendy is an outdoor education activity centre providing activities for up to 700 children aged under 18. As kitchen assistant I had a range of duties including serving food, preparing and making salads and pack lunches, washing pots, cleaning the diner.

Volunteering

Theatr Clwyd Riot Week Production (2019)

Over the winter period in 2019 I volunteered to help with Theatr Clwyd’s community production of The Mold Riots in Mold town centre. I was part of the team producing and adapting costumes and props to make them appropriate for the 1869 era. This involved using a variety of tools and techniques to deconstruct garments to signify the effects of poverty that occurred during the times of the riots. I also helped dress the actors during the fittings, pinning and adjusting costumes to be altered in readiness for the final production.

Flintshire County Council Holiday Hunger Programme (August 2018)

Helped with the distribution of nutritious food to some of the most deprived children in the County as part of the Holiday Hunger Programme

Redecorating Leeswood Community Centre (2018)

I took part in a community initiative which aimed to bring the community together and increase the use of the local community centre. This involved redecorating an unused room in the centre for use as a community café/drop-in centre.

5 x 60 Mold Alun High School (2016 – 2018)

I have volunteered on multiple occasions for the 5x60 team helping to run sporting activities and events to encourage more pupils to take part in sport and physical activity. For example, I completed a level one cricket coaching course which enabled me to help coach cricket amongst younger age groups and take part in and organise tournaments. I have played a key role in running lunch time dodge ball sessions in school for the lower year groups helping to keep children fit and interested in staying active. I also volunteered to be part of the Olympic Committee in partnership with Theatr Clwyd as they welcomed the Olympic torch with local athlete Jade Jones as the Olympic star. Here I helped coach and guide school children from the area through multiple sports and assist with the celebrations afterwards.

Tata Steal Triathlon (2017)

I volunteered as course marshal for a Tata steel Triathlon event held at Mold Alun School acting as a point of contact for the children taking part.  This involved helping to direct them on the course, assisting them with the equipment (getting on and off bikes and using helmets), providing encouragement to participants throughout the event and awarding certificates and medals on their completion.

Girl Up (November 2017)

Girl Up is an initiative to empower adolescent girls through sporting activities. I helped support this initiative by organising and delivering a range of sporting activities for children in local primary schools.

Year 6 High School induction activities

Helped with the delivery of a variety of activities to introduce the coming year 7 pupils to the school
