About Lyndsey Myers:
This career path endears to my creative, but also pragmatic nature, hopefully progressing to becoming a bigger part of a puzzle involved in helping a person.
Over the last three years, I have been completing the BSc (HONS) Counselling and Mental Health degree, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and has been detrimental in my personal and professional development. It has enabled me to open my eyes to counselling and mental health in a range of contexts: culturally, globally and in terms of policy.
Also over the past six years, I have worked on an acute mental health ward, as a health care assistant and an activity co-ordinator, as a part of the Occupational Therapy team, exemplifying my ability to be both organised and productive. These roles have further ignited my passion and interest into occupational therapy. Along with this, I have been equipped with the skills necessary to achieve my prospects, allowing me to adopt a therapeutic and innovative approach to ease service users to complete everyday tasks with enthusiasm, also encouraging an optimistic attitude and aim to discover a purpose in life. My extensive experience has given me the ability to adapt in any situation or environment with an unwavering “hands on” approach. Volunteering through Project 6 empowered me to reach my own personal goals, whilst assisting in constructing a healthy community. I dedicated my time to motivate those with substance abuse to make a positive change. This added to my confidence of understanding individual needs.
In my spare time, I read a variety of non-fiction books, feeding into my desire of learning, fascination of culture and lifestyle, and curiosity of how to help others, as well as this reading acts as a stress relief. As a single mother to three girls, I enjoy taking long walks in their company, observing the beauty of nature, exploring new places and discussing surroundings. Additionally, I like to complete a wide range of online courses, for example courses on British Sign Language, first aid and addiction, solidifying a broader understanding for a successful ‘person-centred’ approach. I aim to expand my learning experience soon with the Freedom Programme training.
Going forward, I aspire to continue to learn through a dream career, making others’ lives and my own life fulfilled in the process. I believe this role will bring the best characteristics out of me, changing mine and my families life for the greater.
