Magdalena Cicholc

As an individual, I am frequently complimented for my creativity, practicality, and conscientious nature. I am hardworking, dedicated, and ambitious. I always strive for improvement and challenge myself to excel in areas I am passionate about. I have strong communication skills, am personable, and approachable. As a bilingual individual, I am competent at conversing in more than one language. Throughout my school career and employment, I am always punctual and am known to be very reliable and consistent. I pride myself on my attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.  

I have worked in a theatre musical production. Maintaining the role of a makeup artist has demonstrated my ability to manage my time and to invest myself in projects. I have also contributed my skills to small, local events. To contribute to my school community, I currently lead a drama club for younger students in year 7 with the aim to enthuse others to pursue a course in drama, and share my love for the magic of drama. I teach pupils to prepare and write monologues, develop scripts and bring their voices to life in short acting pieces. Furthermore, I have also maintained a part-time job at a local restaurant. This has allowed me to develop my ability to thrive under pressure and utilise my excellent interpersonal skills. As a conscientious member of staff, I was quickly promoted from a new entrant with no experience to a kitchen porter. The management, noting my excellent work ethic, quickly promoted me to the position of chef.  

At sixth form, I currently study Drama and Art, two subjects that will be invaluable in my chosen area of study. My studies in Art have allowed me to develop and expand my ability to engage with different themes, media, artists and concepts. Combining my love for makeup with my academic studies, my Year 12 final piece resulted in a piece of live art where I transformed my face and body into a representation of a skeletal figure inspired by artists of the macabre and images of biblical decent. I viewed my body as my canvas, which is something I am keen to explore in the future as a SFX artist. My studies in Drama has allowed me to understand the practical and visual challenges of SFX and how it is imperative to ensure the perception of the audience. Throughout my dramatic career, I have taken the opportunity to transform myself into characters from a wide array of pop culture including Beetlejuice, Corpse Bride and mythological characters from Welsh literature. As part of my Welsh Baccalaureate, I have elected to explore the development of SFX makeup and the use of nanotechnology. As part of my research, I have conducted extensive independent reading into the founding and development of SFX and explored the cinematic aspects and audience reactions. On top of this, I have explored a range of reading materials and reviewed aspects of SFX makeup.
