Job Title: Class Teacher

I am responsible for planning and delivering a curriculum which meets the needs of all my children. I have to ensure that I continually observe and assess the children through summative and formative assessment. This allows me to evaluate the children's knowledge and experiences, in order to set realistic and achievable targets. I arrange the pupils' learning and teaching in such a way that meets the needs of all and ensures that they are fully engaged in the learning opportunity. Individual target setting is part of my weekly routine. This allows each child to have reachable and manageable goals which can be reviewed at the beginning of each new week by myself and the individual. This is reinforced by self and peer assessment through incorporating a traffic light marking scheme. As a result, I get to know my class' strengths and weaknesses and can put measures in place that can scaffold their learning journey. Over the course of the last sevenyears, I believe that I have grown through research and reflection. The network that I have established has really helped me grow as a teacher.

Department: School of Education

As a student here, I studied for my teaching degree (Bachelor of Education). During my time at university, I learned about some of the theories regarding child development, as well as the principles of a good learning and teaching cycle. I undertook placements in several schools and a nursery over the four years, working with children of all ages. These placements also gave me invaluable opportunities to learn from and work alongside established professionals, building upon the knowledge gained at university. Whilst on placement, I was responsible for the planning, teaching and assessing of the learners under guidance from the class teacher and according to the remit set by the university. I also engaged in practitioner inquiry, focussing on the use of collaborative and co-operative learning strategies and examining whether these would have a positive impact on the social skills of young children.
