Max Churchill

I am 20 years old, and from Poole, Dorset. I am highly motivated, dedicated and hard-working, whilst also being adept at working as part of a team and as an individual. 

I like to spend my free time watching as much football as I can, particularly following AFC Bournemouth. I have recently started to play more golf and tennis too, as a way to relax in my spare time. 

I gained work experience in 2024 at DAZN in Leeds, where I spent time with the website co-ordinators, and learnt many things including how to title and caption videos optimally for Google searches. I also spent time with the teams who create match highlights and create packages to be shown before live broadcasts.  I was tasked with creating a highlights video for the Lyon VS Benfica Women’s Champions League Semi-Final, which was posted on the website and had to adhere to the very strict company guidelines. Furthermore, I observed the commentators and producers for DAZN’s live coverage of four Women’s Champions League semi-final games, including Chelsea vs Barcelona. This experience was invaluable and taught me so much about the industry and the production of football content, from inside one of the industry’s biggest streaming companies. 

During the 2023/24 season, I wrote weekly articles on AFC Bournemouth for VAVEL. This involved writing match reports during the game and uploading them swiftly after the final whistle, writing match previews, post-match player ratings, and watching and summarising press conferences (examples attached below).  I needed to stay up to date with the league and pay close attention to news and developments at the club. Additionally, I was tasked with adhering to the specific SEO requirements which included using key words in the titles and body of the article and also selecting relevant images from a reputable library (GettyImages). 

I also work for my local non-league side, Poole Town, who are currently in the Southern League Premier South (the seventh tier of English football). I ran the Twitter page for the club on matchdays during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, whilst also helping to write match reports when required. This experience further helped me to develop my media skills, but also give me invaluable experience about lower league football and solidifying my knowledge of the leagues. The role required me to attend games on Saturdays and Tuesdays and adhere to the club’s house style through photo templates and consistent use of their hashtags. 

I have just completed a BSC Sport Media at Cardiff Metropolitan University.  The course covered Sport Broadcast Journalism, Digital Sport Marketing, Sport Broadcast and Analysis, plus much more, which provided me with plenty of experience in researching and writing articles, conducting interviews, commentary and creating content for various social media platforms. 

These modules, plus my placement within the university where I ran the social media pages for the university's numerous basketball teams have taught me a lot about the industry and given me confidence to operate in any role.
