About Michael Plank:
I am permanently moving to Lostwithiel on the 26th June this year and am seeking a position as a Podiatrist in the local area.
After graduating, I taught for one year as a lecturer in Podiatry gaining experience in teaching and learning.
At the end of the contract, I started work for the NHS in the Brighton area. I found working in the NHS gave me a wide range of experience in dealing with various conditions, including Diabetic Wound Care, Dermatology, Paediatrics and Gait Analysis.
I moved into Private Practice after 6 years and then ran my own business for 26 years. This was a very successful Practice located in the centre of Croydon Town Centre. I had many patients who had visited me for 20+ years and had built a good reputation in Croydon. I was forced to close the Practice when the landlord wanted to redevelop the premises into flats. Many of my patients moved with me to a colleague's Practice in Selsdon where I am currently seeing patients 2 days a week whilst preparing to move to Lostwithiel. I have always treated others in the same way as I would like to be treated myself, no matter who they are. I take pride in giving the best service and treatment to my patients and I have built up a loyal following of patients. I learnt that taking a thorough medical history and carrying out a full assessment before making a treatment plan is crucial to a successful treatment outcome. I am aware of my scope of practice and when I need to refer on to other professions where required. When I worked in the NHS, I was part of a team and in private Practice, I have worked with Associates and enjoy the collaboration with my peers.
During my work in Croydon, I was an active member of the Kingston and South London Branch of The College of Podiatry for approximately 20 years. I held the post of Chairman of the branch for 6 years and was involved in arranging training courses and speakers for local members of the branch (membership 200+ Podiatrists).
In 2001, I was awarded a citation for developing the profession from the Royal College of Podiatry for my research in diabetic foot pressure analysis. In collaboration with a Consultant in Diabetes at St Helier Hospital, I published papers on Diabetes and foot pressure both nationally and internationally. I presented this work in Jerusalem, Amsterdam and Brussels as poster presentations.
Experience
I have been a qualified Podiatrist for 33 years. I love being a Podiatrist and enjoy the interactions with my patients and my colleagues. I ran my own busy private practice for 26 years in Croydon Town Centre employing receptionists and associates and was an active member of the local Kingston and South London branch of the College of Podiatry including as the Chairman for several years. I previously worked for the NHS after qualifying and I have a wide range of experience in dealing with various conditions and Patients, including Diabetic Wound Care, Dermatology, Paediatrics, nail surgery, verrucae needling and Gait Analysis. I have experience in using Swift, ultrasound and Omega lasers.
