Dear Sir/Madam,

I am an experienced teacher and lecturer, with many years of teaching English, ESOL, and Sociology. I have taught English Literature and Language from ages 14+, and ESOL to speakers of other languages, at all levels. I have taught English for Academic purposes, one to one private lessons, specific English to Qatari military students, and English at a college of technology and engineering in Oman. I have also taught in colleges and university centres in the UK, where my students have ranged in age from 14 years upwards, and in community settings, for definitive groups and communities, such as women, refugees, asylum seekers, young learners, and those seeking to acquire British citizenship. In addition to this, I have taught Sociology, Business Studies, and Functional skills to all ages and levels of students, most recently within a university setting, both face to face and online. All of the teaching mentioned has been in adherence to set syllabi and curricula, with both formative and summative set assessments, and informal weekly and monthly tests.

I have experience of writing schemes of work, researching and familiarising with set texts, maintaining attendance records, writing exam scripts, and invigilating exams. Furthermore, I have been delivering and maintaining pastoral care and office hour responsibilities.

I am a key community and team member and believe that the smooth running of the organisation is dependent on mutual support of colleagues. I believe this ensures the department canplan and deliver the best possible outcome to students. I am versatile and flexible, adapting to departmental needs as necessary.

I am familiar with IT applications and platforms and have spent the last year teaching on platforms such as Zoom and Google Meets. I have been teaching via these platforms whilst based in my home country of the UK, to students all around the world. I am also conversant with using technology in the classroom and am not afraid to experiment with new ideas and resources toengage and motivate students. I prepare and present comprehensive and stimulating lessons that facilitate all learning styles. I research, locate, and incorporate a variety of resources to accommodate students through visual, audio, tactile, and kinaesthetic methods, and integrate literature and activities to aid literacy and numeracy development. My overarching aim is to create an environment where each student feels safe, secure, valued, individual, and appropriately challenged. An integral element of my planning is to include differentiation, in a manner which is appropriate, and not demoralising in any way.

As an adept teacher I have a well-rounded skill set in Sociology, English, Functional Skills, and ESOL education. Furthermore, I hold a counselling qualification, which enables me to support my students' pastoral and welfare needs. I am a critical thinker, and a thorough researcher, as demonstrated by my PhD studies.  

In addition to my experience and personal qualities I have a solid educational foundation and a passion for learning. My previous roles have strengthened my communication and leadership capabilities, including a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
