About Nethmi Jayasundara:

Originally from Sri Lanka, brought up in the Middle East, and having found myself in the UK for my higher education, my background is as diverse as my interests and experiences.

I have recently graduated with an MA Mathematics undergraduate degree from the University of Glasgow, and am an incoming MSc Behavioural Science student (2025-2026). Strangely enough, I have also studied English Literature and Philosophy at university-level in the past four years.

I am a budding behavioural scientist. I find it fascinating that we can dissect the human mind, thought, and behaviour to then use this to solve a lot of problems that may not have effective solutions yet.

Academics aside, I am a strange mix of hobbies and curiosities. I have been an actuarial intern at a bank, a waitress, a shop worker, and more. I have taken on leadership roles in many societies ranging through many fields, including astrophysics (Glasgow University for the Exploration and Development of Space); literature and art (Glasgow University Dead Poets Society); well-being and aid (Glasgow Students Nightline); and writing and blogging (Unibuddy Ambassador and College of Arts International Lead Mentor).

Experience

I have a diverse professional background across different fields including finance, education, and community engagement. Currently, I am an International Student Activities and Events Intern at the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School, supporting internationalisation initiatives, event planning, and reporting. Previously, as an Actuarial Intern at Lloyds Bank (Scottish Widows), I gained strong analytical and coding experience. I used coding languages and technology analysis to improve data efficiency, visualisation, and reporting processes. Earlier roles in retail, hospitality, and the charity sector further strengthened my teamwork, communication, and organisational skills, demonstrating adaptability across dynamic environments.

Education

Currently, I am a student studying my Master of Science in Behavioural Science (2025-2026). I focus on modules including behavioural economics, data analysis in R, neuroeconomics, and decision neuroscience. I have an interest in focusing data analysis and human-centered decision making in solving problems. I am also a recent graduate with a MA Mathematics degree at the University of Glasgow (earning a 2:1 qualification), where I developed strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills. Alongside mathematics, I studied Philosophy and English Literature, enhancing my critical thinking and communication abilities.
