About OWUSU JACOB:

I am Jacob Owusu, a diagnostic medical radiographer and 29years of age. I am a member of AHPC -GH and HCPC-UK, I have more than 3 years experience in General x-rays, CT scans, Fluoroscopy and Mri. I am   currently working at Sonotech medical and diagnostic center , Accra-Ghana and The Trust Hospital.

Experience

 I am a hardworking, forward thinking and compassionate diagnostic Radiographer, very proficient and reliably trained in Ghana with more than six years working experience combined with radiography student mentorship. Presently, I am fully registered with the Allied Health Profession Council-Ghana (AHCP) with registration number (50094220) as well as the health care professional council UK (HCPC) with registration number RA093861.

 I possess a Bachelor of science degree in Radiography awarded by University of Cape Coast -Ghana in 2020. I have been exposed to different reputable bustling hospitals and diagnostic canters in Ghana with demanding schedules during my course of work and training. As such, I can confidentially perform conventional, mobile, accident and emergency imaging procedures without supervision.

 I participate in special X-ray investigations such as HSG, IVU, RUG, MCU and Barium studies including theatre procedures using fluoroscopic Unit. I have worked with different x-ray models: ceiling, floor mounted and mobile X-ray machines, GE, AGFA and Fuji Computed and Digital Radiography systems. However, I am open to further training. During my internship, I worked in Accident and Emergency Unit where I learned to modify techniques in patient positioning to achieve the best possible views for proper diagnosis. within the same year I also attended to paediatrics using special care following the urgency and attention that is required for paediatrics. 

I am also competent in intravenous cannulation. I secure intravenous access as part of my daily routine for special x-ray investigations for IVU. I have experience in working and travelling across sites, working out of hours, extended, weekends, nights, call duties and holidays. In the past two years, I have assisted in teaching and training Student Radiographers on clinical postings as well as new Radiography graduates on Compulsory Professional Development (CPD) programs organized by the Ghana society of Radiographers (GSR) where I lectured on the topic of Patient Management. Routinely, I am involved in ensuring that all radiographic examinations are carried out efficiently adhering to best standards.

 I understand the Ionizing Radiation Regulations for Medical Exposures and apply them with all diligence to my work. I participate in departmental quality assurance procedures ensuring that radiation monitoring and Personal protective devices are properly handled in good shape and are safe for use. I ensure all equipment faults are promptly reported.

 I strive to abide by laid down departmental guidelines on infection control and strictly adhere to departmental policies. By this; I usually ensure proper hand hygiene after each patient with soap and water or with the use of an alcohol gels, I make use of disposable hand gloves and aprons, I make use of disposable face mask, I maintain equipment’s and accessories cleanliness according to departmental protocols. 

Have also have several trainings in MRI by GE Application Specialist. Within my few years of practice, I have been opportune to work with and operate various imaging modalities such as: Computed Tomography (GE 16 and 64 slice), static and mobile x-ray units, Direct Digital X-ray system, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (1.5 Tesla), Mammography and Fluoroscopy I am a hardworking, forward thinking and compassionate diagnostic.

Education

I completed my education at the University of Cape Coast, where I pursued a degree in radiography. This comprehensive program provided me with a solid foundation in medical imaging and diagnostic techniques. I gained in-depth knowledge of anatomy, radiographic procedures, patient care, and the operation of radiological equipment. Additionally, my education emphasized the importance of radiation safety and ethical considerations in healthcare. With this education, I am well-prepared to contribute to the field of radiography, ensuring accurate diagnoses and compassionate patient care.
