Experience

Manager, Maritime Assurance Global Time Charter, Previously Maritime Assurance Assessor

Shell International Trading and Shipping Company (STASCO)

London, United Kingdom

July 2013 – Dec 2025

  • Led Shell’s global Long‑Term Time Charter assurance portfolio during a period of expanding commercial activity, strengthening operational reliability and ensuring safe, compliant vessel selection across global trades. Managed a fleet of 250+ tankers operated by 50+ ship managers and led a distributed team of 16 Maritime Assurance Assessors across London, Rotterdam, Dubai, Houston, and Singapore, delivering consistent berth‑to‑berth safety and compliance while enabling commercial agility across crude, products, chemicals, and LNG trading.

  • Oversaw Shell’s high‑volume global vetting operations to support fast‑moving trading desks, delivering timely, risk‑based decisions at scale. Processed more than 40,000 business clearances, completed 35,000 SIRE/CDI risk ratings, reviewed 2,000+ PSC inspections, and followed up on 800+ maritime incidents, while conducting over 150 TMSA Audits and 40 SIRE inspections. These efforts drove major improvements in ship management systems and contributed to a ninefold reduction in high‑impact incidents.

  • Enhanced Shell’s inspection quality and industry alignment by serving as the CAT A OCIMF SIRE Inspector and OCIMF Shell SIRE Inspectors Focal Point, overseeing inspector performance and contributing to key OCIMF publications. Strengthened Shell’s emergency response capability through a three‑year assignment as STASCO Casualty Duty Response Coordinator, effectively managing significant maritime incidents and earning Special Recognition Awards.

  • Advanced digitalisation and global capability building by delivering training on GMAS reporting, enhanced surveillance, Power BI analytics, and Time Charter Operator engagement. Accelerated assessor onboarding and performance through structured coaching, and delivered Assurance Awareness and Cargo Planning training to Shell Commercial Operators, improving global consistency and reducing time‑to‑competence.

  • Supported Shell’s safety culture by co‑leading Reflective Learning initiatives across more than 70 shipping companies, facilitating Partners in Safety sessions, and conducting compliance ship visits. These efforts contributed to a sustained reduction in serious incident frequency and the onboarding of six new Maritime Partners to Shell’s Safety Initiative.

  • Delivered major strategic projects including the integration of OCIMF SIRE 2.0 into Shell’s vetting processes and the development of Minimum Assurance Vetting Criteria for LNG Bunker Vessels and Dual Fuel carriers. These initiatives enabled the safe expansion of Shell’s LNG Dual Fuel business and supported broader emissions‑reduction goals.

  • Provided assurance leadership for the world’s first LNG Dual Fuel crude carrier, the Gagarin Prospect, as well as multiple LBVs and the PROTEUS and NEPTUNE long‑term charter projects. Designed the Hybrid Management Review Process, generating annual savings of $300,000 and 420 man‑hours, and integrated the LTTC Assurance Framework into Shell’s global system, delivering a further 1,500 man‑hours in annual efficiencies.

  • Streamlined multiple assurance processes—including Period Charter Out vetting, Bitumen ship clearance, vessel approval cycles, SIRE inspection planning, and technical review workflows—unlocking more than $80 million in commercial value and saving thousands of work‑hours across Maritime Assurance, Freight, and Trading teams.
