Poppy Stanton

To describe myself i would say i’m a very confident and out going person, making me easy and friendly to talk too. My work ethic is good and i am flexible with my timings trying my best to help out as much as i can. I love talking to people and i have experience in the hospitality industry which has definitely strengthened my communication skills. I have owned horses for 5 years now which has been a huge commitment and has had its bumps along the way, however throughout each challenge i have remained determined and committed. The skills that i have learnt throughout previous jobs are determination, confidence, consistency, perseverance, customer communication, time management, and being on schedule. I am a very passionate individual and try to go above and beyond to help other people. Although i am only looking for a part time job at the moment, i am very hard working and would make a positive contribution to my working environment.

I started working at The Red lion last April, starting as a pot wash. Being a pot wash gave me a lot of confidence with communication towards the kitchen staff and definitely a lot of perseverance due to the amount of washing up you were given per shift. During pot-wash shifts i did food prep, giving me good knowledge on food hygiene and the safety elements of using different utensils. In march 2024 i was given the opportunity to start training as a waitress which is what i now currently still do at the Red Lion. Being a waitress has given me so many opportunities to speak to so many different people including different age ranges and groups. It has also taught me patience and customer service. In july 2024, i spent a month in Costa Rica doing an environmental and community volunteering course. It was a life changing opportunity and really changed my perspective on life itself. During the month we planted trees, built green houses, painted schools, cooked meals, litter picked, built paths, cut out stairs, scuba diving, surfing, rebuilt a play area, danced with the locals and learnt some Spanish. This course definitely helped me become more independent as i left my whole family behind and went by myself. Continuously, during the whole month we only had wifi for two days (the first and last day) meaning that i was completely cut off from my parents. Being in costa rica improved my work ethic as we did two projects each day, it developed my communication skills as i had to speak to people i’d never met before, and also boosted my cultural knowledge. I have worked at The Deco Theatre in Northampton. Working in a theatre environment being a stuart definitely built my customer communication skills and tested my ability to remember important details as we had to memorise the theatres seating layout. Working with an age range of different customers gave me the ability to know how to navigate different generations and how to speak to them. Working at the deco taught me the valuable skill of time and money management.

I have recently finished my GCSEs, doing the subjects of combined science, art, sport studdies, history, maths, english literature, and english langauge at Welland Park Academy, Market Harbrough
